ok i was talkin to my mom about howard and she said she was kinda nervous about me being so far away from any type of family (we live in cali) and how the closest family i have is in atlanta...so my question is how far are yall from family and did distance affect your college choice?
the.pretty.prodigy.
choosing a school tha FIRST time around, distance was a big decision (5 out of the eight schools I applied to were out of state and more than 8 hours away!) but once I got to Hampton I hated being that far. I only went to get away from my parents (bad idea) and I didn't wild out like I wanted to. Funny thing is, now that I'll be closer to home in the fall, I'm more likely to wild out cause I'll be with my homies from high school lol
I'm from Texas. When I applied to school, I applied to 3 in state schools and 3 out of state schools. Howard was my first choice school and I got accepted, but I chickened out because I don't know anyone from that area. I would've been all alone. So I went to a school that was three hours away from. Being that close to home I still hardly ever went home. It was college and I was enjoying my freedom, so I decided that I could make it on my on and I applied to Howard again and got in again and I have been happy with my decision ever since.
Mainly you have to decide what is right for you. You do have to realize that one day you will have to be out on your own and find a job in a place that is most beneficial for you and not for your parents, friends, or whomever. So maybe its better for you to start now rather than later, but ultimately its your decision. Hope this helps.
