I've got beef with *Proud Family* Posted on 01-19-2005
PimpTight™

It really reinforces bad black stereotypes. *Leading females are ALL Light-skindedededed *The Darkskin female is seen as loud and ghetto with no sense of self-worth because she keeps chasing after the same boy who DOESN'T want her. *Oscar Proud is the dominant Black Male figure in the house/show, yet he is seen as the Baffoon of the family. His company procduces a product that nobody likes and the women of the family contiue to riducle him. He as a Black Man is not given any respect and he's designed to simply be comic relief (Like all black men on television.) Seriously, its not that great, I feel insulted when I do watch it. Altho I do chucke when I see the ashy sisters. discuss

The way i see it as that all shows and comedies are full of stereotypes. At least in this case the overall image of the show is one that is positive. Not too mention that many of these stereotypes mentioned earlier are across the board. Like somebody mentioned... the dominant male figure usually tends to always be the idiot. I can name countless shows where this is the case... (Al Bundee, Malcom's Dad, Homer, etc...). It is entertaining and as long as its not a straight up coonfest and detrimental to the race as a whole i think i'mma sit back and enjoy it and give it my RATINGS so we can get more positive shows with black folk on TV.

Yeah thats being wayyyyy to picky..The Proud Family is a positive show with versatile characters....They got white people, puerto ricans, and chinese........I think thats just over reacting a bit....besides its a kids show...kids are "colorblind" and they only go by what they're taught....not what they see.

you are too observant... look at the Simpsons... Homer is a complete idiot... but people love the show, it's been on for 15 years.... and still goin strong.... that's how it is...
What do the Simpsons have to do with Proud Family? the Simpsons aren't black, there are only 4 black characters in the whole town.
lets see theres Apu, carl, wendell, dr. hibbert, the jazz guy died. OH AND dr. HIBBERTS family...mad black people.

^^^Apu isn't black. I don't watch the proud family, but I do notice the color complex on quite a few of our "black shows" and on TV and other media in general. But I don't expect much for the simple fact that we are rarely in control of the outlets of our own images.

Apu is Indian or Pakistani. I cannot remember. I used to watch The Proud Family but we don't have Disney at Hampton (on campus that is). Anyways, in an attempt to portray "black life", the caucasian and others counterparts get it wrong. Look at BET, it does a poor portrayal of the African American. It makes us seem like all we do is drink 40s, drop it like it's hot, and say 'Hey' a lot. The Parkers is a prime example of wrongful portrayal of the black single parent family.

T.V isnt real life and everyone should know that by now...if thats the case, look at the cosy show....when is the last time u saw a family where the dad is a doctor and mom is a lawyer yet ALWAYS home teaching the kids "lessons"....so they're wrong on either end.
