People from northern cities at HBCU'S Posted on 03-18-2005

Im coming from the north next year to go to school in Alabama and I wanna know what people think of students from the north is there a rivalry or a stereotype of some sort? Let me know so I can change my ways right now........... :o

Hella cosigns...me bein from tha midwest, I felt out of place going to school down south. It was too slow for me. And another guy I know who went to high school with me went to ASU for one semester and came back, it was too slow for him as well. I mean as long as u know what ur getting urself into, then u'll be cool.

These northerners should do some research before they come to the south because all most of them do is complain. It's always too cold or too hott or too country.

Lol. They act like all of the north is city. There are country parts in every state. Just like southern states have cities.

Hmm no one said that, but where we are from must be faster, or we wouldn't say it. People from down south complain when they visit NYC and other northern cities too. They say they are too dirty or that everyone is too unfriendly.... We all have things we like better about where we are from. And I do like FAMU. I like being different from the majority... It makes me more interesting to others. What I don't like about FAMU is deeper than cultural differences. What I don't like is the way they change the curriculum for my major everytime the wind blows a different direction. I don't like the fact that I take three classes that are only worth 2 credits ALL TOGETHER and they won't transfer to any other school. Im mad that I will have 37 credits April 29th, yet only 25 would transfer to another school. Thats why FAMU pisses me off. I told DUDE that if he doesn't like feeling like an outsider he won't like it. But personally, I don't have a problem being different from others!

You shouldn't base what some people say on what a whole group thinks. Just like you don't like people generalizing the south... :grin:

Yeah I an a Junior in High School and I live in Seattle and I want to attend a HBCU and alot of black people up here look down on HBCU's and they make ignorant remarks about the schools and the South in general (esp. the black kidz at my school and their ign0rant parents) ... All my family is from the south including my parents and I love everything about it ... Everyone has a different way of living and Southern livin is different from Northern livin
