I plan to cheer for WSSU in the fall. I think that they are the best in the CIAA and they just don't have anyone on Varsity because they have a JV team as well. Though it also gives those of us who need a little cheering maturing to get that before being on Varsity. I have been cheering for 12 yrs. Both sideline and competition. Though in high school we weren't to "BLACK" until my senior year and thats when the squad was led by black girls and we got a little soul and now i can't wait to do my thing at WSSU. so rep your school and how long you have been doing your thing and what type of cheerleading you have been into!
Good luck to everyone trying out for a college squad!! My only advice would be to primarily work on tumbling... most squads require some form of it (at least a back handspring). And make sure you can dance, too, and aren't just confined to stick cheers. (That used to irk me when girls tried out who couldn't dance... a big part of being on an HBCU cheerleading squad is dance.) Good luck again!
Im not a cheerleader but I know Morgan's cheerleaders are goods.
they won 3rd in the 2006 National Cheerleading Association Championships which is nationwide and consists of all schools. They were the first HBCU to make it to that level of cheerleading championships.
The Morgan State Cheerleaders have never finished less than 2nd at Black College Nationals or HBCU Nationals.

Does anyone know the requirements for Howard University cheerleading?
I don’t know the requirement now, but I was an HU cheerleader long time ago (11yrs ago). All I can say is that it is still competitive for women. But since I'm a dude dude, it was a little easier. I was a powerlifter so all I had to learn to do was 1 tumble.Anyway... have fun! You will love HU. I know some folks who may not make it the 1st year, but they stick with it and make it the 2nd year. Persistence helps!
hey guys..im new
but i've cheered and danced since I was 4.And I'm still doing tumbling and cheering at my high school. I'd mostly done just competitive until high school. We've been undefeded in JamFest Nationals for for awhile!! but anyways I 'd love to cheer at an HBCU.. does anyone know how the Clark Atlanta Cheerleaders are?

Does anyone know the requirements for Howard University cheerleading?
I dont know if you are still interested, but I had emailed the cheer coach/advisor this summer because I was wondering the same thing and this is the response he gave me:
Try-Outs are the first week in September around the 3rd - 7th .....but essentially my advice is work out and be in pretty good shape. Jumps are important and tumbling REALLY helps if you have it. We look for overall strength and also memory of the routines that we teach. Please watch your form on everything. Watch your wrist bending on motions and your feet flexing on jumps. We will have around 8-15 spots available depending on what our summer training shows. We judge on tumbling, stunting, motions, voice, and your memorization of a cheer, chant, and dance. We Practice at 6am in the morning and perform at all Home game and most away games. We also perform at various other activities and at local schools depending on who calls us. Many girls also go and work as Coaches at other schools. We will be hosting a competition for younger cheerleaders here in the spring and we also have competition in the spring. If you have any further questions. Let Me Know! schenier@Howard.edu
