How do you guys feel about natural hair on women and men. Is it a turn on or turn off? Do you feel that relaxed hair is better or just caught up in the good hair bad hair hype? What are your feelings...
Since this forum is about natural hair, I gotta ask this question: Has anybody been criticized by friends, relatives, employers, etc in regards to having natural hair instead of having relaxed hair? Do you get BS remarks like, "You should perm your hair!", "Get those naps out your hair!", or "You can't succeed w/ natural hair!" And finally, how did/would you handle being in a situation like this?

Hmm..i don't experience negativity on a regular. Mainly becuz i'm HU and natural hair isn't that uncommon there. But when i came back to LA and stepped into my lil old fashioned COGIC church with my fro, i definately had some stares( ). Oh, and my momma doesn't mind my hair, but she always ends up sayin "Kenya...u sure u don't wanna go to the shop & get your hair done? I'll pay for it"...i take that as hint sometimes
Oh, and i can recall this one triflin n*gga. Me and my girls were walkin down Georgia Ave. after leavin HU's homecoming stepshow and dudes were bein smart azzes, callin us "lil Jill" and "lil Angie Stone" (i didn't mind that too much tho cuz those are ma girls :grin . But then one lil triflin bastid wanted to get crunk cuz i didn't wanna holla back at him & his stupid advances so he says "Well don't nobody wanna be witchu anyway ya **** headed b*tch*". I swear ya'll...it took everything in me not to turn around and kick that nicca in the throat with my stiletto
I think that natural hair is beautiful. I also think that relaxed hair is beautiful. They both take a lot of maintenance, but that is to be expected since your dealing with hair. I don't think either one is better than the other.
Sometimes when its time for me to get a perm. Usually when i wait 3mos. and my natural hair is showing, ppl in the shop will say "why don't you go natural?" I reply that i wouldn't mind, but i don't feel like starting over right now. I have ran across women with natural hair that act like its better to be natural and are negative towards relaxers. I don't know whats up with that but, more power to anyone who has healthy hair. :grin:
in my opinion i don't think people have to be able to rock natural hair "right". i mean, it's called natural hair for a reason, because that's how God made the hair and He doesn't make anything "wrong". to me that's like saying you should only be light-skinned if it looks good on you. now, would i say that you should only have natural hair if you can take care of it? yes. but that really goes for any kind of hair.
Girl, i totally feel u on that. Confuses me when folks say "i only like natural hair of people if they can rock it right" :???: . Folks been watchin too much tv and must think natural hair is some kind of fad or "hairstyle". Wearing your hair natural isn't a "style", it is embracing the essence of how God made u.
When i wear my hair natural, i find myself tuggin and caressing the little coils/spirals all day long. I find Black hair so intriguing, even on my own head...i can't help but touch it.
YES! that's all i do in boring classes or on the bus is play in my hair. it seems like a find a new set of curls everyday. but to some folks natural hair is just a style and not a LIFEstyle, and u can't do anything but respect that.

I get mixed reviews. I growing out my relaxer and it looks good! Some people say that I should get a relaxer to take out the kinks and some people say that I got "that good hair" and that i would look good natural. I just smile and tell them that its just my personal desision to wear the hair god gave me :-D

I've mostly gotten mostly good reviews about my hair. Some even say that I have that "good hair". The only 2 people who don't like it happens to be my mom and my aunt. I love them and everything, but they are getting on my nerves. They would say things like, "You should get it braided!", or "Most places won't hire you w/ locks (I tried to lock my hair earlier this year, but it didn't work out. :cry It's a little annoying to hear them say those things, but I love them anyway. :-)
