What a damn shame! Here it is 2005, and racism still exists. I feel so sorry for Ms. Shakur, and I hope this "case" will be overturned. This is not F*CKING RIGHT! :x
Well i dont experience that type of racism in any form....i guess i'm blessed so attribute my ignorance on the matter to that. and for the record the law i was referring to was when she escaped......if she was covered by God she wouldn't have used the means she did to escape. did MLK try to escape?? What bout Nelson Mandela?? What if Jesus had escaped when he was arrested???? my only thing is God does things for reasons, her life and struggle would have meant just as much if she was in jail. So lets praise the good she's done rather than go and praise the fact that she retaliated which may end up not being good at all in the end. But as it is now she is telling our people that is okay to have no regard for people in authority, whether it be moral or immoral. This in the end will have a detrimental effect on our people, ie the LA Riots. Yes the government was wrong, but if you try to fight it the way she did, its not gonna work. But it goes back to your philosophy on everything.......if you wanna fight the powers that be in that way be my guest...but in the end no good will really come of it. I admit I should not have said f**k her. I dont feel that way. I was trippin' at the time. But hey I don't feel as sorry as I would have been for her if she would've trusted that God would take care of it. Not by killing others( didnt they **** the guards? i may be wrong) to gain her freedom just because she had a beef with government in general. anyways i kno some of yall not gonna agree but oh well.
What he is saying holds much truth, though some of yall may not want to see it.
I never said i didn't want to see where he was coming from. However, he didn't come in here with a standing initially. He came in here with a "f*ck u" attitude.
I'm an open person. I will listen to other opinions...when they are addressed intelligently. Like i told him after he took the mature stance and explained his views, "If that's how u feel, that's fine."

Yea I was speaking in general, because the consensus seemed to be that America is wrong for wanting her back. I was directing that specifically to you.
Now I love Assata Shakur. (I plan on naming my daughter either Nina Clarke or Nina Assata...lol) So ya know I got love for her.
Tho she was taking a stand, escaping was (and still is) illegal, so she will face the repercussions, unfortunately. :-(
Okay, I don't know if Assatta **** guards in her escape attempt either but I'm really not feelin those who think she should've sat in jail and waited for God to work something out for her.If we are going to apply that to everything, in that case I guess the slaves should've waited for God to get them out of slavery instead of revolting up against ****. Don't get me wrong I believe in God and everything but sometimes you have to take situations into your own hands.

Ok, the slaves revolted, and over 90 percent of them got sent right back to slavery. It wasn't until something beyong their control, the Civil War, until they got their freedom.....so....hmmmm.....think about it. Yes, waiting on God is the right thing to do
When u don't wait on God in any situation u take out the opportunity for him to bless u the way u need to be blessed

Great point. But what about Abolitionists and movements such as the Underground Railroad? Should they have been more patient with their condition and waited on the civil war?? I believe if you take the first step, God will lead you in the right direction but sitting around waiting for miracles is illogical IMHO. Let's see how many of ya'll would sit in a cell for years when your innocence has been proven already, waiting for God to get you out of incarceration. If you can do that, I commend you for your faith but me, I know I personally couldn't. All I'm saying is (if Assatta didn't **** anyone) you can't blame a condemned person for taking control of their own fate. You can't give a person back years of their life, and that's what was being wasted when she sat in that cell.

Ok, but u are comparing slavery, where they was getting the crap beat out of them, overworked, dying off, getting sick, to sitting in a jail cell. I mean those are two different situations....complete different situations. I never said don't ever make a move and always wait on God but in this particular situation, in my eyes, it wasn't wise to even attempt to escape. And that's that
Basically why fight if I believe u If u want freedom u gotta take it for yaself and if you believe that God will bring u thru cuz in the end we're both free right?
True to a degree. U do have to fight back but God does gives us wisdom and didn't plan for us to fight back by escaping jail, fleeing, and what not. God would have worked it out through non ****. Don't say u will believe in God, try to escape or fight back in a **** way like Malcolm or this lady here, and then wonder why your **** got shot or **** in the end.
I do see where u are coming from J. And although i am the first one to be a supporter of peace/non-****, when making biblical connections, it must be noted that our God was not always one of "non-war". There were many occassions, especially within the old testament, where he called men to be victors of battle. Just becuz someone has to fight for their freedom (literally), does not mean that they were not acting of God's will.
And someone tell me why YoungBlackNtelligent is reading my darn mind?!
In my eyez, it isn't even about the revolting part. Becuz every **** that sought freedom didn't necessarily plot to **** their owner. Harriet Tubman didn't **** one person when she helped to free countless slaves. But even if she did, it can't automatically be assumed that wasn't in God's will. Should she have just sat pretty and listened to those who were scared and said "wait upon the Lord"? Who's to say the Lord didn't have a hand in her deciding to claim her own freedom instead of waiting for it to fall in her lap? God speaks to everyone in a different manner. Everyone is not called to react the same to every situation. I believe that God spoke to Harriet & hand is hand on her...that was how she got her freedom. And for all we know, God could have spoken to Assata as well & guided her. How easy is it for someone to escape from prison & flee to Cuba without being caught? I dunno...sounds like.

Okay excuse me then. So how do u know when you should let God take a situation into his hands?

My whole thing is just as God says when speaking on taxes and what not when he says in the Bible "render unto Ceaser what is his", he is saying some things on Earth u will just have to deal with. Such as taxes in the case of this scripture. And going through the judicial system is something on earth that u have to deal with. Some things there are no going around (although she found away around it LOL). But legally there are some things u have to adhere to on earth
And on the wars in the old testament, those were of countries/cities/groups/etc that were being flat out persecuted. Was she being persecuted, beaten, etc.?? I never saw a report on that and it may have slipped my reading
And this is where we will have to agree to disagree cause I don't really like going back and forth for too long on particular issues because no side will agree with the other (Loves ya Kinya)
