Bad Move? Posted on 11-04-2005
KLane

At my school we (well they  ) just had a greek winter ball. Well a girl I know is dating a Omega (she wants to pledge) and she wore a purple dress to the ball. She got a lot of attention (not sure if it was b/c her dress was beautiful or disrespectful). So I'm just wondering was that a bad move or is it ok since her bf is a Omega?? Also does it make a difference that the org she wants to join isn't DST?? :-k

Oh, I go to the Kappa Ball cause my daddy and my grand dad (RIP) are Kappa's and you HAVE to wear a red or red and white gown. My hubby is an Alpha and he gladly "respects" the dress code for this annual event. But we grown and all that don't phase us much. Hubby knows too that I am my daddy's girl...he don't wont no trouble outta me bout my daddy's ball :-D Hmmm, come to think of it...you know my dad surely does not wear the Alpha colors at my hubby's Annual Ball...(stubborn NUPE Daddy...) HA!
[-X Do guys have to wear red and white as well? I'll pass.
Me too
Won't have me up there looking like a skinny caramel Santa Claus.

Wile: No. Just me. At lunch today my daddy sternly ordered me to "keep his, my husband's, my son's and my baby daddy's GREEK business outta my mouth....and off the internet keyboards". I want my Christmas present from him and I want my son and husband to talk to me...after they cool off. 8)

Honestly, it varies from campus to campus/chapter to chapter. Some orgs may not care what color u wear at all. Others may have a problem with it. Is it that serious? yes and no. It's at the chapter's own discretion to define what is "serious" to them.

^^ That is actually want I was thinking. So long as she was not wearing the colors of the organization that she wants to join, I do not see how she could be viewed as disrespectful. Her man is a Que so they just might have been trying to coordinate :???: It shouldn't be that serious that she is limited to wearing only black at events (and that is if there are no members of Swing Phi Swing to **** off...)
I totally feel u on this but even if she did want to be a DST, Zeta, AKA or etc and wore a Red, Blue, or Pink dress. I dont really think that's disrespectful cause she may happen to look awesome in those colors. If thats the case then that's like saying u cant wear a red, blue, pink, or etc t shirt, dress, and etc until or IF u cross into that org. I understand it being disrespectful if she was online then yes that's a problem. But from what I read she wasnt online just attending a ball.
Like others have said, I think it defintely depends on what campus you are on. At my undergrad (which is a PWI by the way), when individuals decide to persue an organization, they pack up all of their clothes with that organization's colors until they are accepted or subsequently denied. That means they don't even wear those colors on the yard...let alone to a program or a ball. In regards to the sororities, it was really that serious...

Purple/lavender is a very popular color to wear to a ball. It's not any sorority from the divine nines color so I don't think anybody had a problem with it. It's just a color.... she's not walking around throwing up anybodies sign or doing their call so she should be straight.

I would have to agree that it varies from campus to campus....I know here at my school which is a HBCU, we are told from freshman orientation what we should and should not do as far as greek life is concerned and we are certainly reminder not to tell anybody what we want to do until it's time.....And a lot of other things like we pack up all of the clothes in that color etc..... But regarding the dress people should step out of her behind and let her be...She wore a dress to a ball...That is her decision in what she wanted to wear...Like a person said earlier purple is not a color of the D9 female greeks.... :-(

My sis said the same thing. She actually said if you're a interestee find a nice dress thats neutral colored. But maybe that's just her chapter. Do you feel the same??
