Stereotypes of the men and women at your HBCU Posted on 05-19-2006

According to the people there, what would be some stereotypes, good and bad about the men and women at your HBCU? I just want to compare and see how much different our schools really are. They can be 99% true stereotypes, or those that are perceived but not really that true. But just let us know what you always hear people around your campus and at other campuses say. For FAMU..... Men: -Take at least five years to graduate (hmm....can't say it's that far off) -Think they are "players" according to many women (some of em do of course) -Are thugs, think they are thugs, or have a lot of **** tendencies to be in college (can be very true, especially with freshmen) -The Greek men are seen as being the "best on campus" or elite (according to many females) -Greeks, and sometimes dance troupes and modeling troupes get more play than the athletes (usually true) -Most dudes with extremely nice (or hooked up) cars are either "dope boys" or spoiled kids (hmm....pretty accurate) -Most dudes around campus and at clubs are VERY "thirsty" or aggressive in their approach with women (very accurate) Women: -Freshmen girls are usually flips/freaks/loose/easy (hmm....somewhat accurate, at least to an extent) -The best ones to "wife up" usually are the ones you never see at the club or doin too much on campus (can be true in some cases but not always) -Are a lot more into social status than economic...meaning they'd rather date a Greek dude than one who has a lotta money (very true) Both: -Always complain about financial aid bein late, even when it's not the school's fault (very true) -Always talkin down on FAMU and don't have too much pride......unless you go to FSU or another HBCU, then it's a whole different story (VEEEEEEEEEERY true)

^^ You don't go to either school so mind ya bizness Females(that's all we've got): - We're stuck up. Some girls are but most I've encountered in my 3 years here are not -Everybody's rich. That's definately not true. A lot girls wish they were rich and do everything to look like they are, but anybody who knows anything knows its all a lie. - We don't like the girls at Clark. That's not necessarily true. There is anymosity between all the AUC schools. But I'll be completely honest, I think the girls at Clark are more outward about their dislike of Spelman girls than we are about them. Most of the time we don't think much of them period. But this is mostly a freshman issue.
LOL....I don't know every girl at Spelman, but to be real, most of them I know do look down on Clark in one way or another, and a few girls at Clark I know talk bad about Spelman. One of my homegirls at Spelman was like "I mean, I don't have a problem with Clark, meaning like the buildings and the signs there.....but it's no reason in the world somebody would ever choose to go to Clark over Spelman". One homegirl from Clark was sayin "I can't stand Spelman girls, everytime we walk by and mind our own business, those hoes wanna just mad dog us and give us dirty looks for no reason." So to me, it is probably just hella misconceptions blown outta proportion, and the fact that girls don't get along anyway.
"the fact that girls don't get along anyway" Ummm...That is true for some but not for others. Just like I notice many guys act like they get along but what I witness on a daily basis proves that not to be the case. Want an example? Just watch your local news.
U get what I'm sayin tho...females beef over more petty Sh*t, and hold hella grudges....dudes beef over serious Sh*t, and when it ain't all that serious, they get over it and move on. Girls walk by each other on that "that B*tch think she the Sh*t" type attitude all the time, and always talkin bout "all them other hoes ain't got Sh*t on me", u kno the pseudo confidence that we all know so well.
"dudes beef over serious Sh*t" HA  I observe pettiness on both sides. I'll leave it at that.

Stereotypes within FAMU's campus: Greeks are the supposed upper echelon. {INCORRECT} Northerners are rude and unfriendly. {TRUE} The best future husbands are Business and Pharmacy majors. {HMM I may have to agree} Everyone wants to be Greek, and those who say they don't are lying. {FALSE} Southern women are more innocent. {FALSE} Northern women are more "experienced" and forward. {MAYBE MORE FORWARD, but not always more experienced} Being elected into the royal court guarantees you a spot on someon's line. Those involved in SGA, are only involved b/c they are poli sci majors or interested in being Greek. {not 100% true} Guys from Cali are pretty boys. {mostly TRUE} Guys from Alabama are the most mannerable. {TRUE} Guys from Miami are freaks and players. {maybe} Half of our students are dopeboys, dreadheads, strippers, and video girl wannabes AND half are very business-minded, ambitious, quite conservative. {Most people seem to have both sides in them if you ask me!} I would tell all freshmen to enjoy your first year. Go out as much as you can, but remain focused. People don't expect much from you as a freshman, and no one is really watching your actions. After freshman year, everyone wants to know what you're doing, interested in doing, and going to be doing. Respect yaself, but have fun. TRUST NO ONE... remember you have just met everyone.
Most of those are on point...I don't think us Cali dudes are pretty boys tho! Maybe compared to the dudes from other places who just look grimey, and we are real particular about how we look...but to me, pretty boys carry that pretty boy attitude...."damn that foo got some dope J's on but ain't even matchin!!" "I ain't gettin out the car, I got on my house shoes and I ain't even brush my hair today!" u kno? "Everyone wants to be Greek, and those who say they don't are lying. {FALSE}" - Greeks and greek-aspirants SWEAR that is true...u donno how many of my friends claim I wanna be greek just because my parents are FAMU greeks and I know so much about it. "You kno u wanna do it, u just scared"

THIS RELATES TO HAMPTON U ONLY! Hampton University is a school that is filled several stereotypes. I am sure you all are well aware of the Stereotypes and form your judgments of the University based on those. For the most part, Hampton is like any other school, with a few exceptions. All the below info is According to Office of University Research and Statistics 2005-2006 73 % of students at Hampton come from household where the median income was $127,000 87% of students at Hampton come from 2 parent households 67% of entering students had SAT scores of 1100 or higher (which is about 200 points above the average for African Americans) And the list goes on. But to answer the question..... I wouldn't say these are stereotypes, but it’s actually reality at Hampton. You do have students who come from households where the socio-economical standing is not that great and so they will buy into the HU hype and try to "keep up". The girls at HU are amazing. I see nothing wrong with a young lady wearing nice clothes to and from class, being well manicured in her appearance, especially when you see quite the contrary in the media. I also don’t see anything wrong with seeing high end designer brands on campus. If you can afford it, then buy it. I just hate it when people criticize Blacks for buying designer labels.....we work just as hard as the next group! Most of the students at Hampton drive nice cars (Mercedes and Honda) are probably two of the most common cars you will see a student driving on campus. The guys at HU are known for their academics and intelligence, so I guess that is a good thing! The women are known for just being classy. All in all, you can tell a Hampton student ANYWHERE you go.....It’s just our mannerisms, our speech, appearance, etc....We are a total package, loll. But in all seriousness, stereotyping each other is just another way we divide ourselves.

well I'll add some PWC flavor to the post (I feel so left out lol) University of Georgia Alot of people think of UGA as the producer of future trophy wives and investment bankers...Females tend to be quite materialistic and obsessed with personal appearance...males are pretty much the typical Abercrombie type...black students are just "normal" or fit into one of 3 groups: the intellectuals, the ones that obviously grew up around alot of white people, and the athletes...just about everyone there comes from wealthy suburbs of metro Atlanta...but nobody is really snooty or stuck-up...everyone just loves to have a good time in Athens... everyone's pretty smart though lol...but there are some that slipped through the cracks or got dumb as soon as they moved on campus
