Hello I was just wondering if it was true that AKA's can no longer have probate shows. I went to visit a cousin at her school last week and their AKAs happened to be coming out that weekend. They had a very small coming out show and their outfits consisted of jeans and pink & green shirts with their letters on it. Someone told me it was because they could only have small coming out shows because the national office had banned probates because they felt it was a form of hazing. I was just wondering if this was true or not because I hadn't heard that until now.
(Just a question, no disrespect intended to the organization or any of it's members.)
Wow, you really sound like a lame person and AKA has made you! That's when it becomes dangerous when "no-body's" become Greek! Honey, I know who I am. I am already a Superstar, and NO Greek organization is going to make me. It is really pathetic that you base your self -worth on a club! That is all the Greek stuff is: A CLUB! So quit deceiving yourself into thinking that you are somebody because of a club! You are a sad individual and very insecure! It shows in your comments. I wouldn't dare esteem an organization over myself because I know who I am! Unlike you, I don't need an organization to make me confident. So please NEO quit making AKA's look bad. You are a disgrace to Alpha Kappa Alpha!
*Someone please quit making a mockery of AKA and quit picking these disreputable females!*
I am very interested in pursuing membership into Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority. In my quest for knowledge on the history and present works I came across information relevant to this discussion on some regional sites via newsletters. I will not go into all the specifics out of respect for the organization but the info doesn't appear to be a secret due to anyone being able to access if you just look.
gee wilakers.... good ole HBCUConnect lol
well... i went on the site and didn't see nothing lol. I was bored... **** me. I was too lazy to scour the whole site but i didn't see anything in the Risk Management section mention it specifically, but i'm sure its in between the lines somewhere. Either way I can see why referring somebody to the site leave people without answers.
You have one party that looks at the site that thinks the other party should be able to read between the lines. The other party doesn't even know the language yet let alone how to see whats really there, therefore returning with inconclusive answers that left them where they left.
Anyway.. To all people who have questions, just speaking from experience, its generally best to ask somebody questions of this nature in person (particularly a friend/acquaintance) instead of online. Its like applying for a job online... you're probably not gonna wanna get the response you want lol (just look at past threads... hardly anything gets answered by an interest/or something with questions on here). I know personally, I'd rather answer things face to face rather then in public forum.
Anyway, I know certain HBCU's/Schools have rules against "probates". For example they prohibit the use of the word because of the negative connotation. There was a time (and still is) where certain classes... (y'all call em lines) were actually in the midst of their process during the show and they really were on trial.
Anyway, they are called usually called exhibitions now (technically at least) and usually the people in the show have crossed by that time (not always..). I know thats how it is @ Morehouse at least (even tho they let things slide on occasion). Some schools nix probates all together.
Soundcheck, go back and read the previous thread that I wrote to Shaluv 2000. There isn't a secret at all to why AKA's aren't probating. They are involved in a bunch of mess on most campuses and the nationals want let them. Actually, I knew the answer, but I was just curious to what the AKA'S were going to say on this discussion board. And they lived up to their usual standard that they have, which is having a nasty attitude. Their attitudes stank (not stinks, but STANKS), and they need to get a reality check! The world does not revolve around greek life, but they will get a rude awakening when they step out into the real world. The AKA's really have a wonderful National president now, she is really going in there and changing things. She has a wonderful platform. She is also changing the terminology of how they refer to potential members. They are no longer called "pledges", but now canidates. Also, there is no more use of the terms: lines, line numbers, sands, crossing over, pledges, etc. Those old terms have a connotation to hazing, and I think that probating is also a form of hazing. So that is the reason why they aren't doing anymore probating.

I saw it before I posted... I was speaking in general terms.
Anyway, most orgs and schools have adopted those same policies throughout the years. How strictly they are enforced vary within orgs and schools. Thats what i was somehwat alluding to earlier.
BTW SMC... Did you accomplish whatever you were trying to accomplish with this thread seeing it was a loaded question from jump?

Soundcheck, what does BTW stand for? I'm not familiar with all of these online abbreviations. (sorry) Actually, getting on these discussion boards is pure entertainment for me. I like to philosophy about a lot of things, and this is entertainment. Actually, I didn't start this discussion board, some girl named Amini started it and boy did they let her have it. See they can't hang with me because I will cut them down. I will debate about stuff all day! The guys on these discussion boards seem to be laid back, and the women tend to be really catty!
