Fellas Why do you send text messages? Posted on 02-18-2008

I just wanted to know why do guys send text messages, instead of picking up and calling a woman? I've noticed that in this new generation of dating, that guys are doing a lot of texting. Why not just pick up the phone and call? I'm just wondering why even bother about asking for my number if you are going to text. I feel that you should just ask for my email address if you are going to write. Anyway, fella's give me your thoughts on this and the reason why you do this.

The only time I think text messaging is inappropriate would asking a girl/boy out, breaking up with your girlfriend/boyfriend, asking them to marry you or, like Britney Spears did, send a divorce text. But, to be quite honest, it doesn't bother me at all. I want the guy to be as comfortable around me as possible and I know that every time I had a boyfriend and talked with them over the phone, they never had anything to say. So...text, call.... I don't really care what you do.

So your saying that the guys conversations were only interesting through texting?

That and in person. Whenever it's over the phone, they don't say anything and i feel like im talking to much.

It seems kind of sad that technology, more or less is replacing general human contact. Personally speaking, I'd rather speak to a person face to face as opposed to just texting, IMing or talking to them over the phone. Unless, of course, distance dictated that I had to use other means of communication. But other than that, what's the point? You don't really get someone's true personality and/or intentions unless you can be with them face to face--no matter what they tell or type to you. And even then, you still have to second-guess. So would you really leave that to an IM or text message?

People can put on a persona even while being around them in person, let alone just communicating through technology. I dated this guy for 2 years, and he showed me sides of him that I never encountered. That is why I say that people should date at least two years before they marry. You get to see the person for who they truly are, if you just sit back and watch. Anyway, my point of saying all of that is this: a person can hide their motives behind a computer screen or phone. People need to refrain from building relationships through technology. Technology has made things to become really weird, not only with dating but with building long lasting relationships with people. What happened to the days when people used to stop by and visit a person? What happened to people picking up the phone and telling someone Happy Birthday? Now people just send a text as if that is sufficient! Come on people...! ( as Bill Cosby would say) LOL

Arent you pretty far to the right, tha little conservative... But i dont think technology has replaced human contact, it has just sufficed for human contact in times contact would be otherwise impossible. .. Its not like instead of going on a date, we text... More like when we're in a meeting or 2 states away we liberate our lonleyness through technology...yadiggg

Well, no one's just one thing all the time. I'll admit that. There's some things I'm liberal about and there's some things I'm conservative about. But don't be callin' me no little conservative, now, you might send SuperFly into a rather apoplectic state of affairs. I do remember saying something about in the case of distance, txting and IMing was okay. But some of y'all (and you know who you are) get crazy with it, garnering little to no excuses for your actions. But to every man his own, I suppose...

Personally, I can't stand text messaging. Most of the time, I'll receive a text, respond and don't get a response back...as if they have nothing to say. Or I'll get a silly response. I don't have time for kiddie games.

Personally i like texting, I mean I for one wouldn't give someone whom I wasnt interested in, haven't met in person, or experienced what type of person he is, my phone number for anything other than business. So coming form my p.o.v. I wouldn't have to worry about devious, or misleading personalities. Especially since I'm only 16 years old, I do not have the type of freedom where I can go out around 10-ish to go hang out with anyone. Nor hang out with my friends frequently. My parents allow me very little free time, so that i can spend with my friends, so when I had a phone texting was basically my first choice for many things. I could text mutliple friends [and be very attentive] all the while watching tv, completing homework assignments, preparing for mock trial, and Browse the Internet. There just isn't enough hours in one day to comply with my necesities allowing me to talk with that significant other and my friends whom all wish to talk about things they find important too. But texting ables the ability for me. PRO TEXTING!!! {although I no longer have my cell phone =[ }
