Okay, that's cool. I can respect that. But my question is..hat are some good examples of these folks that "get their hands in the mud" and get "dirty" to prove that they are doing something? Just a lil curious
Jimmy Carter is the best one that I can come up with. His Presidency was one of the greatest this country has ever experienced. But that's not what I wanna refer to. His best work has come after he left the Oval Office. His main accomplishment being his integral part in working with Habitat For Humanity International. He's actually gotten more recognition for was he's doing now than for doing some of the great things that he did in office. The Carter Center is internationally known for helping with peace, elections in third world countries, and worlwide health problems. He's not just running around handing out gifts and saying "Oh please give... pretty please." He's sitting and talking with these people through the whole process. While he's doing things with HFHI, he's actually working on the houses as well, not just paying other people to do it. He mediates peace processes. He assists in helping people become self sustaining. He not only does it around the world, but he does it in the United States. Hell the man went back to his hometown (Plains, GA) and actually teaches Sunday School while he's at home...
Carolina Cowboy, i am not saying that Oprah is the greatest, she is a Billionaire and you are exactly right, 20 million dollars is probably chump change for her. Oprah could do more, but she is doin something that is all i am saying.
Right now she has the Oprah show, but she plans to retire from in 2006. She has even said that what she has done in the world is nothing compared to what she can do. We will have to see what she means by that when she retires from the show.
Jimmy Carter wasn't building houses during his Presidency, he was running the country. Oprah still has a day job and a very busy schedule. Nonetheless i still agree she can and should do more.

^^^ There it is...You hit that right on the nail...

That's why I said I wanted to refer to what he did after his Presidency...

Okay, i won't knock u. He did good deeds. But every individual has a particular preference of what type of service they are interested in focusing on. Carter chose "Habitat for Humanity"...so, building houses would fit in perfectly with that. Maybe Oprah chooses to take another route. Oprah reaches out to **** victims, women and children INSIDE and OUTSIDE the country, and academic programs INSIDE and OUTSIDE the country. And yes...she does talk and communicate with alot of these people one on one, but she is only one woman. She can't be everywhere with everyone. Everything does not require hands on contact to make an impact in someone's life. Martin Luther King Jr., Malcom X, and Frederick Douglass didn't go around building houses and getting their hands dirty in mud, but that doesn't mean that they didn't make a difference in someone's life. Community service comes in many forms.

That pretty much sums it all up. I don't have to say anything.
Not only that, but I'on know that even black folks would vote for her after you actually look at it. What does Oprah do for us? How ofter do you see her getting her hands dirty? Who is on the cover on her magazine? I think she's almost like Martha Stewart. She's built up her empire... now there's a **** in the armour somewhere...
well...she does give money to Black Colleges
She can give all the money she wants. As far as I'm concerned, until I see her out in the trenches with the rest of us, she's only doing it to make herself look good.
Oprah would be the first President who has not finished college [TSU] in years. What is that supposed to say to the young people in a time where education is the key to success or that's what the first lady says. She's is and is not a good role model. Oprah has come from the trenches. She had a hard life and now she's just taking her due even if she has become an "icon".

There is SOOOOOOOO much dirt on Oprah that could be brought up against her, it would be straight U G L Y.
