my sister went and she likes it, she did get a perm for her senior pics and then started all over again, i think it takes just as much as if you had a relaxer

Thank you so much. My mama always perms my hair, so I 'm not about to start paying someone to do it when I get to college in the fall. I want to see what my hair looks like natural, but I don't wanna cut it all off. Hopefully this site will help me out.

How do you healthfully grow out a perm. I'm think about going back natural. But I don't want to have to cut all my hair off.
Me, I just stopped gettin them. I haven't had one for about 7 or 8 months now. It worked out fabo for me.

So while ou were growing it out, what kind of styles did you get? How did you care for your transitioning hair, as in washing, conditioning, combing, etc? What would you reccommend for someone else who would prefer to grow their relaxer out rather than cut the relaxed hair off?

^^^ I know u ain't ask me but I recommend that u wash and condition your hair normally but don't use them white girl shampoos. U gotta deep condition it everytime. Every 6 weeks trim ya hair bout an inch. It's better if you go ahead and cut ya hair bout 3 or 4 inches. I just kept getting braids or twists, whatever was cute. Make sure u wash ya hair while it's in those styles and DON"T leave those styles in for too long cuz your hair needs moisture. I use shea butter and **** on my scalp. Grease with petrolium and mineral **** makes ya scalp dirty and will break off ya hair. Ummm.... sleep with a satin/silk scarf on ya hair at night.

Im sorry...but i could NEVER grow natural. I just think my hair is so much prettier and nicer when its relaxed. And people always sayin that relaxers are really bad for you and they do more harm than good. I have to beg to differ, cause my hair grows fast and its gotten to a nice length but continually taking care of it...I try to keep it in braids just cause I get tired of doing it and my hair does grow faster in braids. I dont think anything is wrong with going natural. Some women look nice with natural hair when they keep it well groomed. I just dont think I would look good with it.

First off, big props to the sistahs who went ahead and made the step to go natural. I've been fighting with the decision to go natural for 3 years now and I've decided to go ahead with it after I graduate. My hair has been relaxed since I was 5 because my mother said it was too thick to do something with and I personally wanna see what my natural hair looks like. I have some idea but I'm not particularly sure because new growth can only show you so much. The sad thing is, I know I will have NO support from my family at all. It seems like they are obsessed with my hair or something and start talking ****if I cut it too short (like THEY have to take care of it!). The crazy thing about it is, my mother had some long **** curly hair when she was younger but she keeps it cut and I've NEVER seen her with hair that's longer than 3 inches or so but she keeps it relaxed so technically she's a hypocrite. I came home with a straw set last semester and they straight clowned and no one actually said it was cute until they realized they'd talked down on my hair so much that they hurt my feelings . I know I will have a long, lonely journey ahead of me when May 2005 hits. :?

Like so many other people, I always wondered what my hair would look like if it was natural. My mom was putting relaxers in my hair since before I can remember. I've always wanted natural hair, but with all the activities and such I was involved in, it seemed impossible for me to just keep up the relaxed look, much less natural. I just got micros done for school, so maybe I'll keep getting my hair braided and see how it looks without a relaxer.

yeah, with all the stuff I was doing I couldn't keep a perm. I only got a perm senior year just to see what my hair would look like permed. I guess that's the complete opposite of yall. So since i couldn't keep it up cuz of all my activities I just went back to my natural.
