I just wanted to know why you guys are going to HBCU's. I think that
other colleges are great but college is about more than getting a degree, it's about getting a complete education. A complete education consist of learning about the world, why your are hear, what are going to do in life and most importantly it's about learning about yourself. Now other colleges can fulfill all of those but an HBCU is obviously the best to learn about yourself and your people. I personally got accepted into some of the top colleges in the nation but I would turn down Harvard to go to an HBCU!
I CHOSE A BLACK COLLEGE BECAUSE I WANTED TO BE SOMEWHERE I CAN GET A GOOD EDUCATION AND LEARN MORE ABOUT MY HERITAGE SOMETHING I CAN NOT GET FROM A WHITE COLLEGE. PLUS ALL OF MY FAMILY THAT HAS WENT TO COLLEGE GRADUATED FROM A HBCU.
COSIGNS
....I feel like I been cheated out of learning about my own heritage goin to an integrated school wit alot of ignorant kids...so thaz why I'm gonna be down south at an HBCU!
I KNOW RIGHT BECAUSE I AM TIRED OR BEING AROUND ALL OF THESE LIL WHITE KIDS.

*imitating ignorant white kids*
"Why can't I get a scholarship for being white?"
*me slapping them upside their head*
"Y'all already get everything else...why would y'all?"
^^^^LOL!!! funny but true, I have always been in a predominately white enviorment and to be truthful I feel that I've been missing out, and white people can be so racist, it's starting to get to me in a big way!!

I know right. I this grrl n my english class was like: why u wanna be around black people all the time...Stupid @$$ Then they had this whole debate about not getting a scholly for being white. I was like the majority of schollys are not just becaue ppl are blk but cause they black and they have achievements. They looked real stupid when I showed them a scholly for white people. All they had to do was send in a picture and write an essay about why they like being white. I think that scholly was more "racist" than any "black" scholly that I have heard about.

I'm to the real HU Howard University. The best school in the nation, the happiest place on earth. HU Bisons Man up!!!! HU 4eva!!!
Man, I wanna go to a hbcu becuz I been goin to white skools all my life and I think that there's some things that you miss out on by not goin to black skools. Plus, I actually have a choice now to go to whateva skool I want to so why not go to a skool that was made just for me and my people.
The next step in my development as a true advocate for the black community is to further my own education. My journey to Howard University next year will be a special one. I chose a historically black university because I know that I will never completely know and understand who I am as a person unless I know where I come from. For me, Howard University is the Mecca of black education; the mother of all intelligentsia. And who should go through life without ever seeing the face of their mother? Howard is such a beautiful and diverse place that admiration from afar simply will not do. I’m sure that once I’ve seen the familiar struggle of my ancestors, the bigger themes in life-peace, harmony, soul, co-existence, and love – will come into focus. I want to learn as much as I can about myself so that, as an adult, I can help people come together. I am interested in politics and the history of humanity, and the black community is where life began and where some of the world’s greatest challenges are located. It’s imperative for me to know what’s going on so that I can aide in positive progression. I have lived a privileged life, and the older I get, the more I want to give something back to whatever cosmic force it was that gave me so much- not out a sense of guilt or requirement, but out of gratitude. We learn by seeing new things, and if I can learn even one thing at the Mecca (Howard University) that can help me live a better life, it will be a rewarding and essential experience.
This is why I chose an hbcu. Like many accomplished black leaders, not only do I want to have a strong sense of whom I am, but I also want to be a citizen of the world. I want to see people for what draws them together-not what divides them. As an African American male, I am acutely sensitive to discrimination and racial prejudice and understand how they can undermine the importance of human connection. With this in mind, I believe that I can bring passion, conviction, and life experience to the world. I also would share my belief that the celebration of our differences as people should be an ideal that we understand as well as a principle that we live by and work to achieve.
^^^^^^Dang brotha. I can't wait until we get to THE MECCA we are too much alike. Great minds think alike, see you at THE MECCA brotha, on that quest for the ultimate education, not just a degree.

Great minds indeed, but don't forget about your HU sistahs. Y'all not going through this experience alone.
I chose an HBCU because I felt the need to go there. I have family history at Howard, so it's gonna be like home away fom home, and I feel as if that is the best environment to work and live in. We are basically starting our own Family for each HBCU here, and I love this. The problem with intergrated colleges and universities is the fact that there can be too much racisim involved, and in my opinion, I feel that no one should have to deal with that.
Where else will allow me to associate with my fellow people on several different levels, learn about the rich history, the university and my race has provided and lead a comfortable life?
I've been accepted to two ther colleges, one a historically black one, and another is an ivy league, yet once I recieved the acceptance letter from Howard, there was no question about it.
In short, I feel that the other options for myself would not be as good an experience as that of life at Howard.
