Ok. I've never seen this addressed in a thread...
What if a greek asks an aspirant if he/she is interested in their org (and he/she is, but has never expressed interest)? Should the aspirant lie?
What if the greek is a friend of the aspirant? Should the aspirant then be honest?
Will a greek even ask such a question?
Also, when is it appropriate for an aspirant to express interest to a greek he/she knows in that chapter? 1st semester (soph. year) seems too early and Rush seems too late....when (if) did you verbally express interest?
I hope my questions don't cross any boundaries. Forgive me if they do.
I was asked by two different organizations if I was interested both my freshman and sophomore years. Greeks will ask if they are interested in knowing for whatever reason.
Lots of helpful advice between OoHatDude and Laidback. Thanks.
I have a question tho.
What makes a greek go out and " recruit " someone as opposed to a person going out and trying to get their face familiar amongst those greeks...if that makes sense
For example...I have friend at school who has told me that all ABC orgs have all came to him. Im just curious to know what stands out about a person that the org would come to them...I mean I know at FAMU if you are in SGA thats a big recruitment from Greeks cause they like to recruit student leaders, but other then that Im curious to know what they see in an aspirant that they would go out of their way to express interest in them.
Im not sure if yall can answer that, but some type of response would be appreciated.
 at those who recruit...
I have never and will never recruit any one for Alpha Kappa Alpha. I don't care if you're well known on campus, amazing in everything you do, etc. If you don't come to my chapter asking about AKA, then we will not go to you to ask if you want to become a member of our organization. Personally, chapters who recruit are wack in my opinion. Your chapter's presence in the community and campus, your org's reputation, etc. should be enough to attract worthwhile, suitable candidates.
On our yard, the rival sorority tried to recruit one of my neos...asking her "have you ever considered sorority life? if so, why don't you look into my org?" ****...It took a lot of restraint to not put them on blast at my neos' show.

Still kinda wack, IMO. On my yard, we don't usually ask people if they're interested in their particular org. I know I may ask a male friend of mine if he's interested in xyz frat, but that's just me being nosey, lol. I wouldn't ask a girl if she's interested in AKA, b/c we want people who know what they want. We don't want to put thoughts in folks' heads.
One frat in the area stay asking frosh if they want to pledge their org and b/c of that they get clowned all the time.
Like it was posted earlier, Greeks may ask for several reasons. Maybe one of those reasons is being nosey. I didn't choose either of the orgs. that approached me because I knew what I wanted. I don't think that a person that can be swayed will be seriously approached anyway. To each their own though. Some send emails and some don't. Whatever works for a prospect, may only work for that prospect.
at one of my colleges, an AKA wanted me and my friend to join their sorority. she was cool with us and asked us if we were interested and that she really wanted us to be a part of it.

Most of the time, interest is evident before Rush anyway.
I think the serious info is being supplied here so I'll leave that alone. :-)
I just wanted to add this: It's amazing...but I'm really learning...some people really are extremely ignorant when it comes to Greek ettiquite. I have to make sure I keep that in mind cuz otherwise I'd FLIP out based on some of the stuff I've heard.
Like...I went to my high school's graduation this year and ya know me...had to floss a lil' bit. ;-) So I had on my Zeta hat and chain. So one of the graduates saw this and said(I'm basically quoting) "Oh you're a Zeta. I'm going to join that. I'm going to be online next year." In my head I'm screaming "Baby girl NOOO!!!!...Please be smarter when you get on your campus!!" But I grabbed up her email and I'll send her a brief message simply to say:Loose limps sink ships...if she's smart...she'll learn.
She ain't in school...I really don't expect her to know....but now when this freshman came up to me after we sponsored Chapel service and told me that she'd probably "pledge" Zeta b/c her mom is one my face went :???:
I don't believe I'm ...."intense" if you will about these matters. I don't like to "interview" folks. I just think that there is a proper way to do EVERYTHING and if you're serious a/b joining anyone's organization you might wanna learn those ways....and quickly.

I've never heard of any BGLOs recruiting, and I been in the bond for a minute. The NPHC has too much pride to recruit, and rightfully so  I know some members may have their picks, but unless they're the only one in the chapter, then that means nothing.
