Greeks: What/Who was your motivation to pursue membership into your respective organization?

I'll start...
My motivation came from the interaction that I had with A Phi A since I first became a Bulldog. I started my attendance at SC State during the Summer of 2003 through The SCAMP program. Because a majority of the Alpha's came through this program, they were used as mentors/tutors for the incoming freshmen. On top of that, the man who is over the program, is the advisor of the chapter who eventually became a father figure to me. Because they showed me so much love when I wasn't Frat, that showed me that they have a genuine brotherhood that I want to be a part of and finally became a part of. So my motivation was the realness that these boys showed me and how they represented themselves on our campus.

This is going to be kinda tough for me. I hope that I won't offend any Greeks w/ my response or give out any clues as to which sorority I'm pursuing. Also, just like Miss_OES, I'm going to be real:
My mother, my maternal grandmother, my aunt (mom's sister) and great-aunt (grandma's sister) are all members of various sororities, with the exception of one. For many years, my mother has (and still is) my motivator. At age 18, I started doing research on all 4 sororities, and having private conversations w/ Greeks about Greek life. Also, when I observe her sorority sisters, they always exuded pride, sisterhood, professionalism, etc in my eyes. I've also had past teachers who are members of different sororities as well, but I don't consider them my motivators. But now, I'm starting to think that my mother's sorority may not be for me (which I won't get into.) All 4 sororities have something that I like about them, therefore I'm now kinda confused as to which one I truly want to pursue.:???: I know that's sad, but I'm only being real.
why is that sad? You are still figuring out what you want. It would be sad if you pledged your moms sorority JUST cause your a legacy and your heart is not into it...basically doin it for the wrong reasons...atleast you recognize that you are unsure of what you wanna do and still researchin what is best and right for you. Pray on it, and let God reveal it to you.
The reason I think it's sad for me is because I thought I had decided on the sorority that was right for me, now I'm having doubts (and I have 1 more year in college!) It's kinda irritating to me. I do all the research, speaking to Greeks on a personal level and whatnot and now these doubts started kicking in! You just don't understand... :x
NOOOO...I understand perfectly actually. If being in a sorority is sumthing you truly wanna do then you will take all the time you need to figure out whats right for you, and even if you are outta school by the time that comes...if u truly wanna do it, theres always grad chapter...you dont HAVE to go undergrad.
Okay here's my story.
In 6th grade I started band and I was really exvcited about playing the flute and I found out that it was something I loved to do. Music became apart of me. I started auditioning for the All County Band and I made it every year and one year I made All District...never got to All State but that didn't stop me. In high school I marched with my flute my freshman year and then the other three years I did flags but second semester I would play in the Symphonic band. Soooo it was my Senior year and my schedule did not have space for band second semester so I didnt play. That summer after I graduated all my friends were like "Jeree' u gonna do band in college right?" and I was like "No. I think I'm done"
But I thought about it and I was like yea imma do marching band but not 2nd semester band. So I call up Mr. Reid and he sends me info on Band Camp.
When I got to camp I saw all these girls rockin TBS shirts. I had seen other Greek organizations but I was like what in the world is TBS?!?! Come to find out they don't march flutes in college (well at central we dont) so they put a piccolo in my hand. Thats when I called my daddy and was like "Come get me I wanna go home" but he was like NO! and I cried so long cause im the baby and I always get my way and for my daddy to tell me NO that was like the world ending.
But my section leader was in TBS so she was like "Im not gonna let u quit you gonna be the best Piccolo player if its up to me." So she worked with me and I finally got it and at the same time learning somethings about the ladies of TBS. So in November went to the meeting and started in Jan and in March we finalized everything and now because of all the help and love I got from everyone I'm in TBS!
Now that I'm in it I hope to do the same if someone else like me comes along and plus I LOVE DA BAND! LOL but I want to further help Mr. Reid and Mr. Clemons in their vision for our band

She is absolutely right. This isn't something u want to walk into lightly. It's a lifetime commitment, so u want to make sure u don't have an ounce of doubt in your heart. If it's truly meant to be, the right choice will come to u. U won't have to force it or stress over it. It should come to u as clear as crystal, without the slightest smudge. There is no rush sweety (no pun intended ). These organizations aren't going anywhere. Just pray about it and keep taking your time.
