My Fellow Greeks,
Do you talk as freely to GDIs on campus as you do here?
Open/Unmoderated Greek Forums are breeding grounds for Perps.
Open/Unmoderated Greek Forums also give Aspirants a great deal of information that many of you had to learn firsthand through your journey to Greekdom.
Save those conversations for private listservs and moderated boards.
Some of you folks explain far too much at times.
You've shown yourself to worthy in someone's eyes, you don't need props from anyone else in reference to your Frat or Sorority.
Yes a lot of these people you interact with here were your friends before you crossed, but they aren't in your GLO.
Loose Lips Sink Ships.
Fraternally Yours,
laidbackfella
This is how I feel...if Greeks feel they are giving us aspriants too much information then the ball really is and always will be in YOUR courts cause we can never know anything that you all dont tell us. So to ease any concerns about greeks telling gdi's too much is at the end of the day a simple answer. Dont respond to questions that you all would feel is " giving away too much and making things too easy. " I dont understand why thats so difficult to do.
i agree with you. its easy just not to respond to a question you don't feel is worth answering. i do it all the time.
Blutifully Human I know you said it was directed towards Greeks but I couldn't help but to answer...lol I just feel like no one is being forced to answer anything. It goes both ways. Just like I chose not to answer the question about my motivation to want to become greek. I just felt like there was no need to put it out there at this time. Not knocking anyone who did answer the question because that was their personal choice. But yeah its simple like F.A.T.A.L said..just don't answer
I feel both of u guys. But that is easier said than done. That's like saying "if u don't like crime...stop committing crime". Everyone isn't a criminal, but there is still crime in the world. So tellin that to greeks who don't easily give away info is like preachin to the choir. One can't control what every greek does. folkz have their own minds and will do and say what they want. This is just an opportunity to discuss it and get opinions on it.
Ironically enuff, when greeks do choose the "no response" option, they are seen as big bad meany greeks who are stuck up and look down on interests. As a matter of fact, there was just a thread about how greeks like to "make it hard" for prospects. Damned if u do, and damned if u don't. And if u ask me, i don't see things as all that difficult. I've been postin all up and thru this board since last summer (some of ya'll know me well ) and yet and still, it wasn't until after i crossed that i started postin in the greek forum. Didn't even really come in here much either. Now i'm not saying that is for everyone. I don't mind hearing from prospects. But i'm just saying that to illustrate that u can get the info u need and attain your goal without taking the easy route.
And it's funny i'm sayin all of this cuz i know laidback prolly had be in mind when making this thread. I'm probably one of the nicer ones, but i can't help it...i'm an angel O. That is, until u disrespect me or my org...then we will have a prob :x

I understand what was said and agree that you answer what you want to answer and the Motivation topic was the time for some and not for others. I don't care about answering such questions because at the end of the day no one knows which sorority I'm interested in. My response was very discrete but above all honest. No one forced me to answer, although I probably wouldn't have answered the question had the topic been started by an unfamiliar GDI. Just as GDIs would like some answers from Greeks, Greeks sometimes just want answers too. Sometimes you need to hear from others how they feel about certain things. There’s nothing wrong with validation, but if you’re motives are not genuine, they will soon become transparent.
I think "some" GDIs put too much stock in getting answers from Greeks that we should be able to get ourselves. It’s been said time and time again that “membership is a privilege and not a right.” On the other hand, I can see some GDIs having a problem with Greeks who don’t answer genuine questions in which the answer is not-so-obvious or easy to find but at the same time it’s not-so-secret either. So what you have a problem with that. That still doesn’t mean they’re obligated to answer. That’s no reason to get mad and swell all up or seek membership in another org just because something didn’t happen when you wanted it to happen. Just do it yourself.
BGLO memberships are rapidly approaching the millions. My motivation for working hard to get where I want to be lies in the fact that I know and understand that Greek members have been burned once too often by members who promise one thing to get in and do another once they’re on the other side. It’s about QUALITY over QUANTITY. Understanding this helped me to realize that if a Greek is mean to me if I ask simple questions I don’t just go off the premise that they are mean because they have something I want. Greeks have a right to demand that GDIs work hard to get information and in their quest for membership. It’s obvious that Greeks want genuine members who will carry on the org when they’re long gone. Greeks want members who will choose wisely whom they will extend membership. This is what they’re founders did and this is what Greeks today do(or atleast should do). There is no reason to “dog” anyone but it should be known that there is a process. I can relate so well to this because I’m in the Order and I feel the same way about who I choose to bring in my organization.
No one is obligated to help you do anything. However, when others see that you’re real in your efforts, you then get more help and respect than you bargained for.

Good point. Usually those who give out way too much info, probably never learned the true meaning of discretion, since they probably had nothing to be discrete about.
