Average amount of money students have to pay back for loans? Posted on 07-30-2005

I go to a pretty cheap institution and I am going into my third year. However this year they didnt give me enough grant to pay for it all. I had to get a pretty big loan to cover it. How much do yall think students have to end up paying back after school?

Pardon me if I'm mistaken, but I assume most people that score perfect SAT Scores and have extremely high GPA's out of high school usually go to PWI's.
That's true, but like Poody said, most of my friends chose to attend HBCU's. Most of the people who I graduated with from my school chose HBCU's, although there were some who chose PWI's. I wouldn't say you're mistaken though.. It all depends on personal preferences and their beliefs as to which school will offer them the best education. If I were asked to put a number to it, then I'd say that mostly likely, PWI's have a higher number of black students attending their schools with full rides, but that's just my opinion.

most people I know don't. Like me I coulda went to a PWI or HBCU and I chose HBCU. My old roommate is extremely smart and graduated top of her class and went to a HBCU. Our Salutatorian went to a HBCU. Even the Valedictorian and Salutatorian at my rival school went to a HBCU. It just depends on what kind of atmosphere you want and what the school offers. My brother went to Morris Brown b4 he went to Ga Tech. I know what yall are trying to say and I agree wit half of it. Just trying to spice this place up a bit.
I didn't say no one with a high GPA out of high school or or SAT Score goes to HBCU's, I said I believe MOST go to PWI's.

I'd rather transfer out of HU (which I might have to do) rather than take a loan... umm... the tune of $15-20 thou a year.. 4 years Undergrad... and I have to do a 2 yr Masters Program @ lets say... $20-25 thou a year.... not a gr8 way to start one's career....

You just made it a point to point out that there are Vals and Sals and people with High GPA's at HBCU's. That's why I said I didn't say there aren't any there.

How are you paying for college? Are you on full scholarship?
^^^ cosigns. Exactly what college do you attend? I know that it is rare to get a full ride at a black college.
hmm I wouldn't say it's rare. There are plenty students who get full rides to HBCU's. You just have to have great SAT/ACT scores, If you have high test scores and the gpa to gi with it, you're good to go. Playing a sport always helps too.
not nessecarily... i only had a 1210 and 3.6 GPA but i got a full ride to Howard NC Central Benedict SC State Morehouse and Tenn St
