Do real women really have curves? Posted on 08-04-2005

Hmm...the average size is 14...I really think there's a problem with America. Not to say 14 is HUGE but our nation definitely has some weight issues to figure out.

Weeeellllll...I think i still stand with my original statement. It really makes me sick to see Americans who let themselves go and then try a two-week diet of starving themselves to lose weight. It's unhealthy to try a quick fix like that. We need to concentrate more on health a fitness. So a girl who is size 12 can be physically fit, yes. But after awhile that fat will start to leave. It's not a new idea! So why are people finding such difficulty with it? It's not like people have to cut a leg off. It's just caring about your body enough to want what's best for it. And having a "wide body frame" doesn't mean anything. I'm wide. Not wide so I have to be put in a size 12 or 14. But for my size I am wide, but I can somehow manage to fit into a size 7. My mother was a size 16 and said it was because she was wide. Well, once she started eating healthier and working out every now and then, she realized that getting rid of some unwanted fat & getting into a size 10 showed she wasn't as wide as she thought. People need to get around the excuses of blaming their body frame and saying their comfortable how they are because you might realize too late how important it was to lose that 15 or 20 pounds. There is no way that anyone can change my opinion because my best friend's father who weighs just above 300 lbs has to be while he sleeps has already had 2 mild heartattacks. His health is sooo bad because of his weight that he cannot even get up to do physical activity. And he's only 44. The strain on the family is tremendous and I dont want 2 see others go thru this. But if u choose to not care for yourself you really can't say this will never happen to you. SO people, pleeease be careful.
and while you have a very valid point...i still...personally...dont see anything wrong with an AVERAGE size...14 and 16 are still pretty average....and being so...if someone in that size IS comfortable then you can't assume that they NEED to lose weight or what not...thats great that you take care of your body and you hope that others learn how to take care of their bodies...but...I AM COMFORTABLE...right now in my life i can't do much about my situation...i have options...but those are options im taking out the time think about...Im not against excercising and dieting and i encourage those big people to do so IF THEY ARE DOING IT TO PLEASE THEMSELVES...not others...and im sorry to hear about your best friends father and i hope and pray that he gets the help that he needs...but just because a person...lets say me...just because im comfortable where i am right now doesnt mean i dont care about my body...if im going to lose weight...im going to do it because I am ready to and because i want to look good for myself...im still learning about who i am and who i want to be BEAUSE of the size that i am in... oh and please dont think that i thought you were directing this statement at me or anything...cuz i know i used myself as an example a lot...but i was just trying to get my point across....

It's ironic that this question came up because I was just talkin to my mother about this. When I first saw the Dove add I was surprised to see "thicker" women in the adds, but I can say that I like them b/c they do show that women come in a variety of sizes and can be just as beautiful in a size 6 as they can in a size 12. However, I must agree with some of the previous statements in that obesity is a major problem in the country these days. Yes, as a young women/man you may feel fine being "overweight" but think of when you're 60 or 70 and that weight has been on your body since you've been young, that weight will begin to weigh heavily on you, particularly on your joints. And i'm not just speaking in theory, I have seen proof of this happening. Older women, not old women, I know who have spent a large portion of their lives being heavy, ending up with terrible joint and back pain. Unless your bones are thick, your body cannot successfully hold up an excessive amount of weight for that long.

Im a considered an obese person and to hear about those ads are bittersweet, you wanna be proud but then there is closeminded individuals who think a size 14 is unhealthy! I have a cousin who is (just found out) is a size 14 before I found that I would have guessed she was at the least a size 10 but due to her height and body frame she doesn't look it and she is healthy! I do believe there is a weight issue in Black America but its up to us to do something about! There are some people who are ACTUALLY happy being big and beautiful and eat healthy, but its those of smaller sizes who are putting the bigger ones down! One of the hardest things to do is lose weight: it takes patience and endurance and a strong mind!

I dont know what a size 14 looks like because I am very small, but I do know that all one has to do to lose weight is run and eat very healthy. Ive been running marathons since I was 12 years old, and its the quickest weight loss a person could ever experience. If a person eats healthy in the proper proportions, there is no way they cant lose weight. It just depends on how badly they really want it.
