What are your views of non pan-hell organizations? Posted on 05-18-2004
Soundcheck 1898

I just crossed into Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia Fraternity of America Inc. (its a music fraternity for those who don't know) this past semester. I know how the atmosphere is in the AUC in regards to non-panhellinic organizations but how are they looked upon at other schools? Also what are your thoughts on being in mulitple fraternities. I know alot of my bruhs are both Sinfonians and part of other organizations as well including KKPsi and various pan-hells. Me personally i'm still interested in one particular organization but I don't think I'll pledge undergrad again. What are some of your thoughts?

You still haven't answered a simple question though. What organization are you apart of?
Yeah!!! What org are you apart of?? A proud and respected member of an organization would not hesitate for one second to represent what they are (at least, none I know of). Think about it...anyone with sense would represent the family they are apart of if #1, they are a proud member of the family, #2, their family is proud to have that person as a member of the family. Oh, and by the way, I'm not greek (yet). Just going off what I know thus far.

I was just sitting here looking over the comments of those who have posted over the last couple of days since I have created the post. I guess what my issue is, is that I take my organization very seriously and I don't understand this whole mindset of whats inferior/superior. Granted... Psi's and I organizations haven't been on the HBCU scene for too long but why the hate. K-Slay... you say that we are wack but i' m curious to know what is that based off of... does one chapter represent us as a whole to you or are you just hating on the organization because of what it stands for? Personally I don't care that you think we are wack because you are entitled to your opinion and I'm still gonna do my thing regardless but i'm still curious to know what is the thought behind it? Crazy4DST, you prolly were kidding but even so, were these 8 weeks 2 days 5 minutes and 37 seconds I spent on line this past semester really a mistake? (of course not). I look at that statement the same way you would have if an AKA would have came up to you shortly after you crossed and said you made a mistake pledging silly DST and that you really wanted to be an AKA. I'm not hating on anybody... my purpose for this post was to see if there was a condescending attitude towards non pan-hell in other places (I have yet to be looked down upon in the AU) and understand the frame of mind that goes behind it. The conclusion i've come to realize is that people are gonna hate anyway. People hate all the time on PH's because they are more visible and they can pick at them easier. As for us... our lack of visibility on HBCU's causes us to be hated on because people are quick to crack on seomthing that is foreign to them. The second conclusion that i've come to realize is that how can we expect anything from PH's who do not know us personally when they can't get along amongst themselves. Phi Mu Alpha, Sigma Alpha Iota, Kappa Kappa Psi, and Tau Beta Sigma have the ill relationship with each other (I almost consider KKPsi my brothers but they are whole other org... so their more like cousins and we do have ties with them historically). I honestly don't see that too much with Pan-hells outside of the AUC (and those in the AUC do have some MAJOR issues amongst themselves). However, there are those that I do respect such Dehyrayshun and those like himself who I know personally that are part of BGLO's (calling you out fam lol) because I know his/their reasons for joining true. I saw him and his bruhs going to homeless shelters every thursday faithfully and I saw how they conducted themselves on campus. They have pride for their org without knocking others. I respect that. I think he said it best the whole forum...

The people that hate on these organizations do it out of ignorance and don't understand the focus of that group. You can kind of think of different greeks as different churches, with pretty much the same goal, but different ways of reaching it. Some people place more emphasis on the way that a person entered than what he's actually doing while in the organization. If they're doing what they're supposed to be doing, you really can't knock them. If they're not, then don't mess with them.
And we all know... what would the church be like without be like without the church musicians and choir... "wackk" lol. I'm done... i talk too much in these forums... lol

And I don't luv them any less or treat them any different it's where their heart was at so on that note b4 I say sumfin' else *U* may not like i'm gonna stop right here! And by the way if an AKA walked up to me and said I made a mistake in a serious way (which I serioulsy doubt she would do  ) I'd give her Crimson Kisses and tell her let's Be Owttttt!!!! lol

I already PMed Crazy DST but my bad if I came of type defensive. This ACE has a napoleon's complex for real so sometimes I take things to the heart even when i know folk are kidding. ANYWAY... what about other organizations like Groove Phi Groove and Swing Phi Swing. Those cats are cool as hell down here and are all about their business but what about elsewhere? I would really like to hear more from some who are non pan hell (or nothing at all)... holla back.

I am apart of the epsilon lambda chapter of Tau Beta SIgma National Honorary band sorority and i would just like to say how dare u talk about something that u clearly have no knowledge of. i know that people all play alot but when you talk about something that someone has put there blood, sweat, and tears into, that hurts and that gives us permission to beat someones arse. I have a lot of love for D9 because my bruhs and sorors are apart of some. but the first thing they joined was tbs and kkpsi and if they were to pick it would be those whack **** two!!!!! some people that talk about us makes me sick but then i think about and realize that they probably just don't understand, because i didn't until I READ THE HISTORY OF THE TWO ORGANIZATIONS. BLACK PEOPLE LETS STOP BEING IGNORANT AND GET ALONG.

^^^I wouldn't worry too much on what members of the pan hell or anybody else for that matter thinks of your organization if I were you. The success of your organization isn't dependent upon their "respect" :? What an organization does speaks for itself.......if some people don't want to hear it, that's their problem.

I know I'm new to this board and it is aparent to me that there is a lot of bashing going on. I am in the band frat and the divine 9 and the oldest organization in the world in wich we take up almost 75 percent of this planet! My point is that some pan hel chapters can hang and some can't, but don't nock KKPSI and TBS if you don't know. When you pledge you have to see your big brothers everyday. That includes some classes plus band rehearsals and then sessions. That is a 99.9% guarantee that you will get wrecked! Quietly, if anyone has ever seen an HBCU pre-drill camp or band practice would know that most of the people in the devine nine could not hang... especially if you get your letters over a weekend. For the record how about trying to support your black brother and sister organizations. GOOD DAY! www.octave151.com

Well, on Hampton's campus, a lot of the administration itself (including our president) belong to one of the pan-hell organizations. So, being in a non pan-hell (or all together non-greek 8) ) org can have its obsticles. Some people just don't know about the other organizations out there. Some people just don't want to know. I wouldn't join another org (unless it's the NAACP or something along those lines), because Swing is it for me. But I know one of my sisters also belong to TBS (the band sorority). I don't see a problem. Both orgs have different focuses and serve different purposes. You said it best. Even though our President here at WSSU is KKPsi  . By the way, I don't know you but good to see you. My mother is a Swing(Raleigh Grad). I've come to the conclusion the people fear what they don't know. I love KKPsi and I will love it until the day I die. It is not just an undergraduate thing. I plan on joining a D9 org and I will love that org. just the same. I always remember what my mother told me when we had this conversation about people "hating" on Non-D9 organizations. She told me to love what I am and to "Dare to be Different." If you don't like Kappa Kappa Psi, Tau Beta Sigma, Phi Mu Alpha, Sigma Alpha Iota, Swing Phi Swing, or Groove Phi Groove, the so what. We were not created to please the members of the Pan-Hellenic Council. As long as we are doing what we were founded to do, who cares what the D9 thinks. But I digress before I get heated. Hot_Coco, please tell your sister who's my Soror that I said hello.

All I can do is read and let this mess sink in. You know the main reason that people believe there is so much BEEF is cuz we let them. GRILL IT UP AND EAT IT YALL!! There is NO REASON that there should be any mess between the Pan organizations, the non-Pan, or any others for that matter. One of my girls came through TBS in 04. I was right there to see her do her thing. I understand the work that goes into the band frat/sorority simply because on top of all... u have to maintain the love and the art the music. In turn, my girl was there to see me unmasked entering into the world of the D9. ITS ALL LOVE! We all worked hard (hopefully) for the letters we wear and the choices we made are our own. We know that... so stop lettin OUTSIDERS be the ones to cause chaos and confusion within the organizations. BTW.... ol' dude has yet to say what...if any... frat he reps. So PLEASE... brush that mess off!

Good point! We're not here for anyone else's entertainment. Being in the band (the Marching Force, of course 8) ), I definately see what TBS does.......we don't have KKPsi on our campus BTW, tell your mom I said hello as well.
