Would you let someone close to you wear your nalia if.... Posted on 11-05-2006
theTRUTH

...they really needed it? This is a true story that happend to me... I was driving my mothers car to the store and I got caught in a bad thunderstorm. I didnt have an umbrella and it was POURING down raining outside. My mom keeps a Delta Sigma Theta umbrella in her car. (clearly Im not a Delta because I am a male). Anyway, I said fukk it and I took the umbrella with me inside the store. Personally I didnt think it was a big deal...but hey, thats just me. Would you let someone real close to you wear/use your nalia if they really needed it? Like if you have on your frat jacket and your girlfriend gets cold, would you let her wear it to keep warm? Or if a friend needs to go out in the rain but doesnt have an umbrella would you let them use yours even though it clearly has letters on it and they are not a member of that organization?

This stuff is an example of having a form of godliness but denying it's power. That is where you step off in idolatry when you worship things. That is what the children of Israel did. They made a cow of gold and started worshiping it and made it their higher power. The Greek stuff is the same thing. People are worshipping an image. For that guy to say he wouldn't let anyone wear his jacket or umbrella rain, sleet, or snow that is going too far. People need to examine their ways very closely because God isn't pleased with that type of behavior.

That type idolatry goes further than just greek paraphernalia...People put their cars, clothes, and money before their own spiritual well being.

Damn all that I know in Alpha and in Masonry we don't play that crap and as far as my wife she is a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc. as well as the Order of Eastern Star and I know they don't play that!!! If your organization allows for your spouse or whatever in times rain or anything like for you to let them where your jacket or something like that then go ahead and do your thang!!

I'm not understanding what you are saying. Are you saying that you are for or against others borrowing paraphernalia in certain circumstances? I'm a Heroines of Jericho and we don't wear paraphernalia. Actually, the Masonic groups back in the day only had a ring. All of this wearing paraphernalia is a new generation thing and they are copying the Black Greek Letter Organizations. So for you to mention the Masons and Eastern Stars not playing that crap (as quoted by you) is ridiculous. They shouldn't be wearing paraphernalia anyway. People shouldn't have such a close relationship with anything that God can't tell you to give it away or let someone else use it, or not to be a part of that organization. If you hold things of that nature that closely you might need to reexamine some things. Even Jesus said in the word that if someone asks you for your cloak give it to them, and if they ask you for a mile go an extra mile. When Greek people say that they wouldn't let people wear or use their things that makes people on the outside think that the Greek stuff is a bunch of idolatry.

Then we arrive back at the original question: When is it just a matter of respect of the organization and when does it cross the line into "idolatry"?

I've already answered that question with my above reply. When something doesn't line up with the word of God it isn't right. Nothing should be held that closely that you can't give it away or not be a part of it if God tells you to. God even mentioned that husbands should honor their wives as Jesus honored and loved the church. So for a man to say that he wouldn't give his wife his Greek coat or umbrella during rain or snow that is a sorry man who doesn't honor his wife. NO organization should come before your family, your love one's, or your friends. You aren't a real friend if you let your friend get wet in the rain because you are too silly about your organization to let her borrow your umbrella. That type of behavior is crazy! I'm not understanding these individuals mentality because it is on borderline foolishness. I'm sure there is something mentioned in Proverbs about this type of silly behavior. When Proverbs calls you a fool you are a terrible fool! LOL

Soo since we are quoting scripture... In Luke 14:26 Jesus said, "If anyone comes to me and does not hate his father and mother, his wife and children, his brothers and sisters-yes, even his own life-he cannot be my disciple." Does He really want us to hate our families? The 10 commandments also express that one should not "make for yourself a graven image, or any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth" How many people have angles and what not in their own home? *EDIT*and then that just leads into a further argument on whether people are still bound by the scriptures of the Old Testament...and that's a whole other discussion in itself. *EDIT* So there are a lot of actions that don't align with the "Word." With all that said (To be the Devil's advocate) I'm not quite sure that letting your spouse get wet goes against the word...because according to the word doesn't the husband have dominion over the wife's body and vice versa? In the end... i just don't think you should just be lounging around in somebody elses stuff. Which i guess what everybody else just said.

My wife is also a member of the Heroine's of Jericho. But I don't think that the Masonic Order is trying to copy off the Fraternities and the Sororitites! You mentioned that back in the day the only thing that the Masons wore was a ring and that is true. I think back in the day there wasn't to many apparel shops that had masonic items in them anyway so it wasn't like they had alot of options to where they could go. If somebody want's to wear a Masonic shirt I have no problem with that as long as you don't wear too much, and with that I mean wearing a shirt with a hat along with a chain. The only thing that I wear is my ring and maybe a shirt hear and there, but thats just me. To answer your question I really don't care either way if your wife/husband or whomever wear your stuff! Let e ask you a question? If your wife or husband was in the car bye themselves and it started raining would you give them the okay to wear your Jacket or let them use your umbrella!! from your last message you are saying that you would!! It's cool do your thing but for me and mine we have an understanding!! If me and my wife is out together (like we were) a couple of days ago and it started raining (like it did) I'd grabbed my Alpha Umbrella (which I did again) and the both of us walked under it but if she would have been in my car alone then I guess if it was coming down real hard and if she was outside the house trying to come in then in that case yeah it would be all good. I don't know where you was made at and it may be cool for you all to do that where you are from. But in the Great State of Mississippi that's not allowed and i've seen people come back with their feelings hurt over a situation like this. But like I said to each his own!!! When I was young in this thang use to be Gung Ho about everything ,but as I have gotten older in the Frat I realize that some of that really wasn't that serious but this subject here I don't play around!!!I better not see a lady with a Masonic or an Alpha Umbrella over her head and she is bye herself. There's gonna be an issue! No matter how much rain is coming down and even in some druken stuper my wife said it was okay I would never carry her AKA umbrella!!!! Now her Eastern Star Yeah because I am a member but her AKA umbrella I would be okay without it!!! That's all I got too say on that!!
