QUESTION. HOW DID U END UP AT UR CURRENT SCHOOL... DID U ALWAYS WANT TO GO THERE OR WAS IT BY CIRCUMSTANCES...
ME BEFORE LAST JANUARY... I NEVER EVER CONSIDERED AN HBCU... AS FAR AS I WAS CONCERNED. I WAS GOING TO BE A UNIVERSITY OF SOUTHERN MISSISSIPPI FOOTBALL PLAYER AND GO TO SCHOOL THERE. EITHER THERE OR POTENTIALLY CLEMSON. I HAD COMMITTED TO USM BEFORE THAT. WELL SH!T FELL APART AND THE COACH WHO RECRUITED ME GOT FIRED... IT WAS EITHER DELTA STATE.. A FEW POTENTIAL MORE SMALL PWC'S OR A JUNIOR COLLEGE... WELL A FEW WEEKS LATER JACKSON STATE CALLED AND OFFERED ME A FULL SCHOLARSHIP.... MY DAD WENT TO JACKSON STATE SO I LOOKED INTO EM.. TOOK A RECRUIT TRIP AND IT WAS OK. MISSISSIPPI STATE CALLED LIKE A WEEK BEFORE SIGNING DAY WAS LIKE WHY DON'T YOU WAIT ONE WEEK AFTER SIGNING DAY AND IF WE DO NOT SIGN THIS OTHER PLAYER, WE ARE GOING TO SIGN YOU. I WAS LIKE THAT IS TOO RISKY.. BECAUSE IF I WAIT AND THEY DON;T SIGN ME.. I AM STUCK LIKE CHUCK.... SO I WENT AHEAD AND SIGNED WITH JSU...
(I STILL WISH I WAS AT UNIVERSITY OF SOUTHERN MISS)... I LIKE DIVERSITY..
Well, before I went to the Howard Hughes Program at Spelman before my senior year in high school, I wanted to go to Harvard or Yale. However, after the summer, I only wanted to go to a HBCU because of the experience I had, and Spelman was my first choice. So, when school started I applied early action to three schools; Spelman, Howard, and Hampton
I received acceptance letters to all three schools . Hampton was the only one to send a scholarship w/ application(Presidential), but I wanted to go to Spelman.By spring this year, I had received both a scholarship to Howard and Hampton, but not to Spelman  . I became upset because I knew my heart was with Spelman, and that being there felt more like a second home than just a school. So, at Spelbound, I talked with the admissions director, and she told me that if anybody turned back in their scholarship, I would get one because I was a finalist for the Dean's Scholarship, but they only give a selected few out.Luckily, around the next week I received a letter saying I received a scholarship  , but I only thought it was for loans, and I didn't pay attention to the paper. Later, my mother found it and brought it to my attention. I was elated, but my mother still told me it was not enough, and I was again getting discourage  .However, around the next couple of weeks, outside scholarships started coming my way, and eventually Spelman sent me another letter saying I received even more money . So, now I am going to be a future Spelmanite, and I am so very happy because their is no other school that will make me as happy as I am being at Spelman College.I also just want to say to future high school seniors, never give up on the college of your choice, because with determination and prayer, anything is possible. GO SPELMAN JAGUARS!!!!
I became a tiger after getting tired of being @ a huge school
Michigan State like 40,000+
No one on one
And i always wanted 2 g2 a hbcu
I was tired of the east coast
Thought the south would be cool
So it came down 2 Southern a&m & Jackson State
I had a couple of people close 2 Jsu
Plus my highschool was a big band school
So i knew about Jstate
So that is that last june i moved to jackson
Aug 2003 i became a student thas that
I wanted to attend Tulane but 36,000 you do the math
I was looking for the **** store, and took a wrong turn onto Hampton's campus. Dayum Mapquest!
No, seriously, mainly recommendations of friends & family. I honestly didn't know too much about Hampton until I got here, and I like what I saw. Holla!
At first, I was planning on going to this very big white school in the south (they were the #1 team incollegefootball) and I got accepted, but because they werent offering me any money, and that it was so far away from home... I decided to go elsewhere. A lot of people in my family, and friends of the family recommended Smith to me and said that it was a good school. Hell it was only 6 hours away, it was black college in a major city, and they were offering me some money... And thats how I ended up going to Smith.
I was tricked into it by outside forces!!!! But on the real I really don't know. I never thought about Morehouse.....never ever. It wasn't until my senior year that an alumnus from Morehouse came to my school and talked to a group of us that I even considered......then my teachers and stuff started pushing me to give it a shot, so I finally sent in an app, and got accepted......I can't see myself anywhere else now.
well let me tell my loooonnng story...those who have been on here awhile know that I have switched colleges more than once!
I visited Hampton my 10th grade year when I was on vacation with my fam...I didn't know anything about HU before that except that it was a black college...but after I visited, I loved it!
Fast forward to my senior year...me and my UB advisor kept arguing about the Hampton essay and I applied to seven other schools and got accepted (just because I could) and TSU was the first school to accept me and I didn't think I was gonna get any money from HU so I started doin research on TSU and said I was going there...
well in March TSU sent me a letter saying they ran out of money to give me an out of state scholarship...
then Grambling sent me a letter promising a out of state scholarship...so I said I was going there...
long story short...after I had forgotten about Hampton they accepted me May 28 and then just a few days ago I decided to go there...I loved the atmosphere at Hampton when I visited...I can deal wit the curfews and dress code but I love that school!
Just so happens I was visiting said university, on a tour this random man asks if anyone is going tobe an engineering major....I raised my hand and he said well hell come with me. So, I signed up for this summer program where I'd take classes and have everything paid for plus I'd have a scholarship for the next 2 years so I wouldnt have to pay out of state fees.....I was sold. Bottom line? Money.
