Fellas Why do you send text messages? Posted on 02-18-2008

I just wanted to know why do guys send text messages, instead of picking up and calling a woman? I've noticed that in this new generation of dating, that guys are doing a lot of texting. Why not just pick up the phone and call? I'm just wondering why even bother about asking for my number if you are going to text. I feel that you should just ask for my email address if you are going to write. Anyway, fella's give me your thoughts on this and the reason why you do this.

Personally i like texting, I mean I for one wouldn't give someone whom I wasnt interested in, haven't met in person, or experienced what type of person he is, my phone number for anything other than business. So coming form my p.o.v. I wouldn't have to worry about devious, or misleading personalities. Especially since I'm only 16 years old, I do not have the type of freedom where I can go out around 10-ish to go hang out with anyone. Nor hang out with my friends frequently. My parents allow me very little free time, so that i can spend with my friends, so when I had a phone texting was basically my first choice for many things. I could text mutliple friends [and be very attentive] all the while watching tv, completing homework assignments, preparing for mock trial, and Browse the Internet. There just isn't enough hours in one day to comply with my necesities allowing me to talk with that significant other and my friends whom all wish to talk about things they find important too. But texting ables the ability for me. PRO TEXTING!!! {although I no longer have my cell phone =[ }
HA! Pro-texting. That's funny. I feel you though. However, people are still going to be devious and misleading regardless, texting and/or IMing doesn't really protect you from that, in fact, it can really set you up for it. C'est la vie. But if that is one of your few means of communicating, then txt on!

It takes up more time texting than just picking up the phone and calling. Especially, if someone continues to text back. You might have started out with just having to say two or three words, but then the other person on the other end might want to start a conversation. Then you will find yourself texting for 30 minutes or more.

Not for me. Thats where you and I are two different types of texters. I text just as fast as i talk. So for me, I find it easier texting. Plus when I only wanted to talk about two or three things thats what I do, rather I am talking on the phone, or texting, or in person. If I dont want to talk to you, then I dont. Im not rude or anything, but there are ways to let someone know that what you stated was it, and you dont want anything else.

personally, i text ppl i don't care enough about to call. more of a "ok, just makin sure you still alive & kickin but don't care to carry a convo witcha" kinda thing. also, texting allows me to carry on multiple convos wit multiple dudes... lil player-ish maybe. but that would be my guess as to why a man wouldn't call. that, or they aint in a position to talk on the phone. i know i text in class alot..

Well, you can still be player-ish and talk to multiple dudes on the phone or even better, actually go out on dates with different guys! LOL Seems like texting would be harder to carry on multiple conversations with different guys but hey that's just my theory.

Now see, you tryna play me for a textual dater. L0l, i do go out & interact with folk...but in between times it can get tiring and cumbersome to just be sittin on the phone with someone & thats why i usually stick to texting until i get to the point where im interested enough to hold a vocal conversation. for me DATING involves getting to know more than one "potential person". does it bother you to think that the girl texting you sweet nothings could be texting others the same thing? L0l

So it seems like the going consensus is that you text someone when you either a) don't feel like you can carry on a conversation with or b) are in a position where you can't carry on a conversation. However, if the lil **** isn't interesting enough to carry on a conversation with, then why are you bothering with him? In addition, if ou can't actually talk to someone, seems to me like there's something more important going on than your text message. Precisely why I have the text messaging service on my phone turned off. No one has ever[/] sent me anything important via text message. It couldn't be but so important if you could only manage to type it out with your thumbs...

what if you are kidnapped and locked in a trunk but have managed to keep your phone with you and in order for it to remain undisclosed you send a text message alerting authorities because making a phone call would be to risky?? now that- i call important.
