Ok once upon a time my hair was hella long (like middle of my back long) and my mama put my first perm in my head when i was in the 5th grade. I got perms for 2 years until my hair started shedding. So i grew my hair out natural my 8th grade year (keeping it in braids most of the time). And i kept it pressed all threw out high school...people never knew that i didnt have a perm cuz my hair always looked like i did. But anywayze being natural is tedious process and if u dont like foolin with ur hair-i would recommend it cuz ur hair needs a lot of TLC during all this. Even though it helped my hair grow-i dont have the patience that everytime i wash my hair i have to sit and get it pressed jus so i can out side and it look like i did nothin with it. So that is why the day before my graduation i told my mama "PERM MY HAIR!!" cuz i was gettin too tired of everytime i sweated or a drop of water got on my hair-i lost all manageability with my hair. So i have been getting perms for about a year now-but its time to braid it up cuz im tired of even foolin with it now.
My hair matted and I had to cut it after 'the accident' (not life threatening just hair threatening). It was a bit past my shoulders but it had been shedding for a while so the cut was good and I put in braids. During my freshman year, I went to school for about a week and half before I got my cornrolls put in my head. Could not stand to take care of it without a relaxer. It had a relaxer but it did not stay in very long so my hair was kinda wavy. My sophmore year, I came back for band camp and had braids again, I tried to make those suckers last for four months from Mid July to End of October when my girls and I sat down at my big sister's house and started a hair unbraiding party. My hair was out of braids till Christmas break (can we say free relaxer? for botching the first one). Then after Spring Break, my hair was back in braids till the end of the school year. I have about an inch of relaxer left. I did not have to cut out the relaxer except that one time. During this period, I get my hair pressed every two weeks. Now I've found that I like cornrolls in two or more rows than regular micro/box braids. It's all on how you take care of your hair. I kinda enjoy my hair without the relaxer. It's healthier and not shedding as much. The break off points in my hair are actually growing. I like the natural look. It's better this way. I can still have long straight hair if I want to but in this case it's healthy and my scalp is oh so nice. No more painful relaxers for me.
yea i feel all y'all, but ive been natural my whole life and i'd never think about switching

I didn't get my hair relaxed until I was like...15. But I HAD to get it relaxed...I didn't even want to. Cuz my hair is so thick, that w/o a relaxer, to get it straight, it was damaging it...and making it break off and junk. Cuz I had to use soo much heat to get it straight. It was bad. But now that I have it relaxed...it's alot healthier now.
