Ok I have come to realize that us greeks tend to get stressed out over some of the things that prospects may do or say…simply because they do not know proper protocol. So this thread is for all the greeks to list things that ALL ASPERANTS SHOULD KNOW in terms of proper behavior. (Lets try to keep it simple)
I will begin:
1) Do not go to an interest meeting for more than one org…do your research until you know which one is best for you.
2) If you only want to be greek for the following reasons…then this isn’t for you:
A.Want to join because you like to step
B.Want to get more girls/guys
C.Want to become popular/accepted
3) Do not wear and org’s colors to an interest meeting
4) Do not throw up greek hand signs or do the calls
5) Do not go around telling people what org you are a prospect of.
6) Stay away from the words “ I’m gonna be a ________” or “I’m a future________”
7) Do not cut through party walks or brake lines.
'Tis all for now…
I cant believe that they would actually make yall attach your name and circle an org that you want to be a part of. If that was me at that point I would have simply wrote that I was unsure at the moment. Honestly, I believe that one should not attach their face or name to an org if they do not know which they want to peruse interest in. Basically You shouldn't go to any specific org meeting unless you are positive and that you have done ALL of your research. Being that this situation is of the past...I don't want to say that you are "doomed" but as a Greek I can tell you that if that was my chapter I WOULD BE TALKING ABOUT YOU! (and not in a good way). BUT the least that you can do...if asked, is to explain the situation. Its already spilled milk...no use crying over it.
Secondly, in NO way should you peruse the org u wrote down just for that reason! That is not what the D9 is about! Chose your prospective Org wisely! If that isn't the org that you want to join then Pursue the one that you feel is the best for YOU...
after all this is a LIFE LONGGGGGGGGGG COMMITMENT! (think about it)

Thank you AKAtude...I know, it seems weird...but I have heard that our school's administration is not very friendly to GLOs...they require us to attend the forum if we plan to join an org and you must specify one for your attendence to be recorded and for you to be eligible.
Now, you did say one should not attend a group's meetings until one is sure...are you talking about interest meetings/RUSH in particular, or events in general? Because common folk wisdom around here is that you should go to all events to be in the running...parties, movies, workout sessions, book clubs, activism, community service, etc.

But there are a couple of other things that I would like to add.
1) Make sure that you have the grades. I had a friend that met the GPA requirements for my sorority but not the GPA requirements for the school. Because of that, she was ineligible to apply for membership.
2) Please, please, please have respect for those people that are in the organization. I'm not saying that we are above everyone else, but we worked hard to get where we are. Don't do anything stupid such as following behind us and copying what we do as we are training at a party. It sounds like common sense but there are people out there that are stupid enough to do that. Trust me, I've seen some people try it.
3) Look up as much information about the organization as you can. If you are lucky enough to be picked to be in the organzation of your choice, you will have to learn the information anyways so why not get an early start?
4) Like someone said earlier in this post: PLEASE SPEAK! It's just another sign of respect. You don't have to run all the way across campus just to say hi but if you happen to walk by a member of the organization, SPEAK.
5) I don't know about everyone else's school but at mine all the greek organzations speak to each other. So it's in your best interest to try to be cool with everyone even if they're not in the organzation of your choice.
6) Try to attend as many events as you can that the organzation is hosting. That way they will start to know your face.
7) If you are truly interested in joining a greek organzation, be mindful of all that you do. You may not know it but everyone is watching you, including the teachers.
I think that's all I have to say for now.
