Greeks: What/Who was your motivation to pursue membership into your respective organization?
GDI's: What/Who is your motivation to pursue* membership into the organization you are interested in?

I'll start...
My motivation came from the interaction that I had with A Phi A since I first became a Bulldog. I started my attendance at SC State during the Summer of 2003 through The SCAMP program. Because a majority of the Alpha's came through this program, they were used as mentors/tutors for the incoming freshmen. On top of that, the man who is over the program, is the advisor of the chapter who eventually became a father figure to me. Because they showed me so much love when I wasn't Frat, that showed me that they have a genuine brotherhood that I want to be a part of and finally became a part of. So my motivation was the realness that these boys showed me and how they represented themselves on our campus.
if this has already been a topic, then my bad :? ; post anyway

This is going to be kinda tough for me. I hope that I won't offend any Greeks w/ my response or give out any clues as to which sorority I'm pursuing. Also, just like Miss_OES, I'm going to be real:
My mother, my maternal grandmother, my aunt (mom's sister) and great-aunt (grandma's sister) are all members of various sororities, with the exception of one. For many years, my mother has (and still is) my motivator. At age 18, I started doing research on all 4 sororities, and having private conversations w/ Greeks about Greek life. Also, when I observe her sorority sisters, they always exuded pride, sisterhood, professionalism, etc in my eyes. I've also had past teachers who are members of different sororities as well, but I don't consider them my motivators. But now, I'm starting to think that my mother's sorority may not be for me (which I won't get into.) All 4 sororities have something that I like about them, therefore I'm now kinda confused as to which one I truly want to pursue.:???: I know that's sad, but I'm only being real.
why is that sad? You are still figuring out what you want. It would be sad if you pledged your moms sorority JUST cause your a legacy and your heart is not into it...basically doin it for the wrong reasons...atleast you recognize that you are unsure of what you wanna do and still researchin what is best and right for you. Pray on it, and let God reveal it to you.
The reason I think it's sad for me is because I thought I had decided on the sorority that was right for me, now I'm having doubts (and I have 1 more year in college!) It's kinda irritating to me. I do all the research, speaking to Greeks on a personal level and whatnot and now these doubts started kicking in! You just don't understand... :x
NOOOO...I understand perfectly actually. If being in a sorority is sumthing you truly wanna do then you will take all the time you need to figure out whats right for you, and even if you are outta school by the time that comes...if u truly wanna do it, theres always grad chapter...you dont HAVE to go undergrad.
She is absolutely right. This isn't something u want to walk into lightly. It's a lifetime commitment, so u want to make sure u don't have an ounce of doubt in your heart. If it's truly meant to be, the right choice will come to u. U won't have to force it or stress over it. It should come to u as clear as crystal, without the slightest smudge. There is no rush sweety (no pun intended ). These organizations aren't going anywhere. Just pray about it and keep taking your time.
Thanks for the advice. I hope I didn't appear as if I'm desperate, lol.

I can pretty much guess what Brett wants to pledge.... so GOOD LUCK GIRL!!!!
I hope that you get to where you want to be....
One of these days I'mma write my motivation... but that will be one LONG post... :???:
How can you pretty much guess what I want to pledge? How are you so sure missy? You think you know, but you have no idea...
I didn't come from a family of greeks. Aside from a few distant cousins who are greek, I have no immediate or close extended relatives who are members of Greeks. I was a student-at-large trying to determine if I belong in any sorority and if so which one.
To be VERY HONEST I've researched all of the D9 BGLOs. Doing it this way helped me to see what drives each. Reading about the legacies, philanthropies and accomplishments of each org was astounding to me. As I said before I love to learn and anything I can get my hands on I'm gonna digest it. This helped me to determine, after prayer of course, the sorority I wanted to be apart of.
The sorority I've chosen(and I hope chooses me) is one of great calibre and very prestgious. I'm not talking down on the other 3 because all of them are wonderful. What made the decision harder for me is that I didn't let myself be driven by stereotypes. I didn't judge by the stepshows, parties, or who ran the yard. I went by the public information provided on each and that's what makes the decision hard SO HARD. Again I had no influences(relatives) to pursue a certain org(or any BGLO) so I had to do it on my own.
The sorority I've chosen is magnanimous in stature. I love it, I want it and I'm going to get it(spoken in a bold but HUMBLE way :-D ). It's like being in love with 0% words to describe it but 200% assurance in knowing it's real. I feel that I'd be a great asset with the org of my choice. I seek a career in the org, not just membership.
Being a member of XYZ org is to "let your life be as that of a snowflake where it leaves a mark, not a stain" on those affected by it.
THAT is what I want to be apart of.
*standing ovation*Dang, that needed to be on def jam poetry or sumthin  . Someone is gonna have one heck of an interest letter .

Thanks Blutifully. I really appreciate it.
I really do have to agree with you Blutifully, that was really well put.
I guess its safe to say that you don't find too many GDI's with that same persona and mentality when it comes to pursuing Greekdom. I actually can relate to you a little about not having stereotypes to follow and about not having any Greeks in the family. I come from a family where I am a first generation Greek so therefore I didn't have any influence on my decision to pledge Alpha Phi Alpha ::clears throat:: The Oldest, Coldest, and Boldest...excuse me.. 8) ..anyway....And as far as stereotypes go, I honestly never heard of an Alpha until I came to SCSU. The only fraternities that I knew and saw were Sigmas ,Omegas, and Kappas because there is no chapter near my home town. But I know that I made the right decision in choosing my respective organization and I'm sure your interest in the organization of your choice is one of genuine love. Keep that mentality that you have and it will get you far.
Also, good luck and I hope whatever SO RO RI TY you have chosen, sees your potential and chooses you......

Thanks for the kind and encouraging words Chief Pharoah. I really appreciate them. I hope like hell that I one day become one of those sisterfriends turned greek members of this board. And when/if it happens, ERRRRRBODY will know it. 8)

I know what Paradise wants to pledge :-D
LOL.. Do ya now? As long as I didn't come out and say it... then I have no qualms about you figuring it out yourself... Now if I did tell you.. then it was either a lapse in my discretion or hmm... well... hmm... NO WORRIES... My life's an open book... it just happens to be somewhat encoded...
p.s.... I know what Pearlfection wants to pledge.... ME PHI ME!!!!!! :-D :-D (Pearlfection chapter of course)
@ Change... you have a 25% chance of being right....
There is NOTHING wrong with Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated... if one had to judge the entire organization solely on Alpha chapter, they would NOT be found wanting... in fact.. it should be every woman's dream of wearing Royal Blue and Pure White... or Crimson and Cream.... or Royal Blue and Gold.... or Salmon Pink and Apple Green
