Whats up fellas. My school doesn't have a fraternity yet but I hope to transfer to Norfolk State University and join one. Now...whats the low down with them? What are they called? What did you have to do to get in one? Do you regret it? Do your "brothers" really have your back? LETS WORK PEOPLE!

This is one thing that I will never understand about the greeks. I don't know about all campuses, but at XU those mofos don't seem to have ANYTHING else better to do than harass people. They have events but only want interested people to attend, have tables at the organization fair but look at you like a plumb **** fool if you go ask a question, and then call you dumb/uneducated/ignorant/blahblahblah if you ask something that they think is inappropriate even if it may not be. My homegirl just crossed and she was trippin one day talkin about this girl who asked one of her line sisters something after a volunteering activity and then talked bad about the girl, talkin about she should have done her research. I'm like dang, she had to ask SOMEBODY cuz a book isn't gonna tell you all that you need to know. It's like she forgot that she was once in that girl's shoes too and if it wasn't for her having greek folks in her family, she would have been just as lost as the girl. Yeah, I know about discretion and alla that, but it just seems to come down to who you ask for info because some of the peeps that you think are cool as hell will hassle tha ****outta you just because someone else did it to them..or better yet, just because they can...that is until the deans get called..
I agree! I will never understand some of these people's attitudes  Of course you can't tell him all of the details of the process you went through, but some of you (including some who aren't even apart of an organization :? ) were plain rude. You could of at least answered his questions in proper manner instead of just dissmissing him as ignorant. Some of the responses I read were plain ignorant. Instead of just saying that you have to go through it to know or other cocky responses, you could have at least told him about the application process, direct him to a website, or give some pointers on how to express interest. Some people don't realize that everyone doesn't know the "rules" of expressing interest (especially since he already pointed out that his school had none of these organizations). The best source of information is from someone in the organization......not from a book or a webpage. My friends and family had plenty of questions to ask me when I crossed. I love it when people ask me about my organization! You should be enthusiastic when people ask questions. That means that they show an interest (which keeps the organization alive in the first place) or at least they want to gain a better understanding of these organizations (and cocky answers usually turn people off). BTW (since he isn't responding....and he's my lil bother)...for the comments on him transferring schools just to join an organization...he said he said he was tranferring AND wanted to join an organization.....there was no cause and effect there :? To transfer schools just to join an org that he obviously knows little about would be just plain dumb (and I know I taught him better  )
Ugh, good job nikki, sorry for the late responses to these foolios but i just saw them and was like "hang the **** on a min".

ok, imma make it even EASIER for him. 1. Whats the low down with them? A Fraternity is a Brotherhood. A bond. Each has a specific purpose whether they are a social, service or recognition fraternity. 2.What are they called? The Frats of the Divine 9/BGLO's, formally known as the National Pan-Hellenic Council are................(go research them yourself. they gotta website.) The professional music fraternities are Phi Mu Alpha and Kappa Kappa Psi. There are other frats like Alpha Phi Omega. Research them. 3. What did you have to do to get in one? Are you serious? Get to know Greek. 4.Do you regret it? Hell Nah! 5.Do your "brothers" really have your back? B-R-O-T-H-E-R-H-O-O-D Maybe if when one of y'all do try to become Greek, you'll understand why we get like this when GDI's get REAL inquisitive. Greek organizations are disreet when it come to MEMBERSHIP intake. I worked hard as hell along with my brothers to reach our goal. Y'all should too. There's too many "letter wearers" walking around as it is. Nothing was handed to us (as in information). ^^^all of that was a gift. now imma say it once more. Discretion is the what? KEY!!!!
OK, that "discretion is the key" crap is pretty lame. And no the low down isnt what you said...the low down is that fraternitys create (some) simple minded , arrogant fools such as yourself (pardon the name calling) who think that being a Greek (even when their Afro-American) is "the Shiiiiiiiyiiiit" and some BS secret society. I really dont want to join a greek frat, and no where did i say i did. If anything, any African org will do, being as thats what I am. Lets keep in mind that its just a friggin fraternity, not the secret service.
Hold the f@ck up. I atleast tried to point your ignorant @ss in the right direction. To truly have an understanding of something you must physically do research yourself, meaning search for the info and then ask questions. That "discretion is the key" crap you mentioned? When dealing with initianted organizations, thats what you go by. And yes, I am arrogant. I've got GOOD reason to be arrogant. And no, its not 'just' a fraternity. We don't go out and binge drink every night. We don't have toga parties and do other stupid random BS. If you're refering to my frat, come correct and do your research before poppin' off. Other than that, you can leave me out of your equation 'cause I could give two sh!ts about ignorant, nonsense GDI's like yourself. Fine

WTF, "poppin off"? Im not some guy on the internet looking to pop off when your like 10,000 miles away. Anyway, your whole approach was unacceptable and i had no choice but to respond. And act like you were being the good samaritan by "schooling" me on the issue. The point of my forum was simple: to not only eduacate myself on the issue, but also to educate others who may be curious. I don't really care who answer, and particularly was not looking for a frat member to. I was looking for members as well as those who have come in contact with them and witnessed their arrogant approach (e.g. YOU) and anyone willing to submit a disclaimer to joining (some have submitted very helpful info without leaking private info, you were not one). In conclusion, if you really took it that personal and secretive, why bother responding at all. You must have said the "discretion is key" thing zillions of times. We all "heard" you and dont need to be reminded. Clearly those who know its that secretive wouldnt tell the secrets. Those who dont know (e.g. ME) would be expected to ask. You are a Black male in college and I wish you luck brother but as the saying goes: "Check ya self before ya wriggity-wreck yaself" -some rapper i cant recall.

Whats good fam... in case you didn't notice folk on this board can be type **** if you come across the wrong way  . Chock it up to experience. Anyway if I understand correctly, you have a great asset which is your sister (especially if I think your interested in what i think you would be going for based on a previous comment of yours). My only suggestion to you is learn how to research things without asking others now (HINT :wink . This goes to you or anybody else who is interested in their respective org of interest. 1. You know what school you are going to... so do CAN find out who's active there (the internet is a wonderful tool). They should have a list orgs. that you can access some way 2. Get aquainted with members or at least learn who the bulk of them are in the chapter of interest. Show interest but know your stuff (what that is, is up to you) and make sure you have a DAMN good reason for wanting to be part of that org. 3. No matter what... if you really understand the concept of fraternity and especially if your not part of one, do not speak negative of another organization as a whole. Being on the flipside and understanding what I've been through as well as others, I can't hate.

This is all i'm gonna say about that publicly. Whether you are "greek" (i have some minor issues with term that too but its nto that serious), part of an african based frat (e.g. Groove Phi Groove), or just some any random cat... If you are not an asset to your God, family, race, and humanity as a whole you gets no love. Although, many frats are misrepresented by some overzealous few, we all strive for the previously mentioned goals, just collectively amongst brothers who share the same high ideals (and yes it goes way deeper than that). For me... thats the real low down... All i can say is do whats right for you so that u can in turn do the right thing for others. Holla... (on another note ya'll ACE's got issues lol j/p  )
