Would you let someone close to you wear your nalia if.... Posted on 11-05-2006

...they really needed it? This is a true story that happend to me... I was driving my mothers car to the store and I got caught in a bad thunderstorm. I didnt have an umbrella and it was POURING down raining outside. My mom keeps a Delta Sigma Theta umbrella in her car. (clearly Im not a Delta because I am a male). Anyway, I said fukk it and I took the umbrella with me inside the store. Personally I didnt think it was a big deal...but hey, thats just me. Would you let someone real close to you wear/use your nalia if they really needed it? Like if you have on your frat jacket and your girlfriend gets cold, would you let her wear it to keep warm? Or if a friend needs to go out in the rain but doesnt have an umbrella would you let them use yours even though it clearly has letters on it and they are not a member of that organization?

Soo since we are quoting scripture... In Luke 14:26 Jesus said, "If anyone comes to me and does not hate his father and mother, his wife and children, his brothers and sisters-yes, even his own life-he cannot be my disciple." Does He really want us to hate our families? The 10 commandments also express that one should not "make for yourself a graven image, or any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth" How many people have angles and what not in their own home? *EDIT*and then that just leads into a further argument on whether people are still bound by the scriptures of the Old Testament...and that's a whole other discussion in itself. *EDIT* So there are a lot of actions that don't align with the "Word." With all that said (To be the Devil's advocate) I'm not quite sure that letting your spouse get wet goes against the word...because according to the word doesn't the husband have dominion over the wife's body and vice versa? In the end... i just don't think you should just be lounging around in somebody elses stuff. Which i guess what everybody else just said.
I'm not understanding what your point is. You mentioned something about the scripture of not making graven images. It isn't referring to things such as angels that people have in their homes. Graven images are things that people exalt and start to worship or things that take their focus off of God. Since you brought that scripture up, the Greek stuff is a form of an image that some worship. Also, you mentioned that scripture was in the 10 commandments but it is not a ten commandment. You also asked if people are bound to the Old Testaments and that answer is yes. Jesus did not do away with the old laws but came to fulfill it. He said that those who do not obey the old laws and teaches those not to obey it, will be called least in the kingdom of heaven. He said that not one stroke or pen mark of the law will be removed as long as the Earth remaineth. (That scripture is found in Matthew) The only thing that was done away in the old laws are sacrificing an animal for covering of sins. Jesus became the ultimate lamb that was slain for our sins so that we don't have to sacrifice animals for forgiveness of sins. I was just using that scripture about husbands honoring their wives and vice versa, to show that a man shouldn't exalt an organization above his spouse or anyone of that matter. If it is raining and there isn't an umbrella but his Greek umbrella he should let others use it. That is all I was saying. Since people honor these Greek organizations and have made it an adoration in their lives, I do agree with your statement that people shouldn't lounge around in their paraphernalia. Now for extreme circumstances they should allow a friend, spouse, family member and even a stranger use their items.

My wife is also a member of the Heroine's of Jericho. But I don't think that the Masonic Order is trying to copy off the Fraternities and the Sororitites! You mentioned that back in the day the only thing that the Masons wore was a ring and that is true. I think back in the day there wasn't to many apparel shops that had masonic items in them anyway so it wasn't like they had alot of options to where they could go. If somebody want's to wear a Masonic shirt I have no problem with that as long as you don't wear too much, and with that I mean wearing a shirt with a hat along with a chain. The only thing that I wear is my ring and maybe a shirt hear and there, but thats just me. To answer your question I really don't care either way if your wife/husband or whomever wear your stuff! Let e ask you a question? If your wife or husband was in the car bye themselves and it started raining would you give them the okay to wear your Jacket or let them use your umbrella!! from your last message you are saying that you would!! It's cool do your thing but for me and mine we have an understanding!! If me and my wife is out together (like we were) a couple of days ago and it started raining (like it did) I'd grabbed my Alpha Umbrella (which I did again) and the both of us walked under it but if she would have been in my car alone then I guess if it was coming down real hard and if she was outside the house trying to come in then in that case yeah it would be all good. I don't know where you was made at and it may be cool for you all to do that where you are from. But in the Great State of Mississippi that's not allowed and i've seen people come back with their feelings hurt over a situation like this. But like I said to each his own!!! When I was young in this thang use to be Gung Ho about everything ,but as I have gotten older in the Frat I realize that some of that really wasn't that serious but this subject here I don't play around!!!I better not see a lady with a Masonic or an Alpha Umbrella over her head and she is bye herself. There's gonna be an issue! No matter how much rain is coming down and even in some druken stuper my wife said it was okay I would never carry her AKA umbrella!!!! Now her Eastern Star Yeah because I am a member but her AKA umbrella I would be okay without it!!! That's all I got too say on that!!
Actually I am from the Great HOSPITALITY State of MISSISSIPPI! LOL Well, since you and your wife have that understanding do your thang. I wish my future husband would say something stupid about me grabbing his Greek umbrella and it is pouring down raining outside. We would have to have some marriage counseling after that argument! LOL Another question, what would you do if you saw a lady walking by herself with a Mason or Alpha umbrella?

I would have to ask her if she knows anything about what she is carrying and if she didn't know in which I know she wouldn't then I would ask her who's umbrella it was, and I would give her my number to give to that individual and if he called me than we would have to schedule a place and time were we would meet to talk about his obligations!! So back to her I would not disrespect her or anything like that but I would need to get to the bottom of this!! There is no way in hell that a woman should be having my organizations umbrella's and she is walking bye herself now I said I really don't care but let me retract that statement!! I don't care if a lady has her husbands Kappa Alpha Psi Umbrella because i'm not a member of Kappa Alpha Psi!! I don't care if a AKA let her husband use her Pink & Green Umbrella because i'm not a member of AKA but if I see a lady with that square and compass on that umbrella or that Coat of Arms on that umbrella and she is walking bye herself me being an active member in those organizations i'm gonna find out whats's up. How would you feel if you saw somebody that you knew wasn't a member if the Heroine of Jericho walking down the street with an umbrella???

Actually, I doubt I would see anyone with a Heroines of Jericho umbrella. For one thing, Heroines of Jericho do not wear any paraphernalia of any sort. You see mostly Eastern Stars wearing jackets or shirts. My mom is a Grand Matron and I have never seen her wear any paraphernalia. If I did see someone using an umbrella and wasn't a member I would not care. There is enough to deal with in your daily routine than to stress yourself out about something so trivial. That is my opinion though, some might feel that they need to defend the cause of their organization. I just frankly plain out don't care. LOL Well, if you feel that strongly that you need to slip your number to an individual for using the Alpha umbrella then do so. The world needs individuals like you because the world would be boring without interesting people.

It's the Hospitality State. LOL You didn't know that Mississippi is called the Hospitality State? You must not be originally from Mississippi. You better not tell anyone that you didn't know that. People will look at you strange! LOL

Dude, if you go and reread my post I didn't say anything about letting anyone wear my "Greek" paraphernalia. The guy Gatekeeper asked what I would do if I saw someone using a Heroines of Jericho umbrella. How about most people do not know the true meaning of the Greek organizations! Most people have a misunderstanding of what the purpose of the Greek stuff is, including those that have been in these organizations for years. Pledging or getting hazed doesn't make you a knowledgeable person, if anything it makes you out to be a big fool for participating in it. It isn't even about wearing paraphernalia, it has a higher purpose that many fail to understand. Since you started this silly thread it makes me wonder if you even know what the true meaning or purpose of this stuff. Besides, what are you? You haven't ever stated what Fraternity you belong to, but I always see you posting stupid stuff in these Greek forums. So what are you? Another thing, yeah I guess I will be paper pledging. Not everyone is blessed to have a family member that is a President of a Graduate Chapter. Does it anger you that my way into the BGLO will be a breeze and without all the foolishness? Interesting!

I didn't say that I would be nonchalant but I wouldn't act like you said you would do, slipping folks your number and going off. In this day and age folks aren't giving a darn about what Greek letters you are representing. I hope you aren't living in Jackson, MS talking that mess. You might get yourself shot approaching folks you don't know anything about. I bet no one will say anything to those thugs in Jackson about anything. You are a fool if you do. Actually, this guy got shot at Jackson State University over some Greek stuff. It was this local that came on campus and sat on the Omega's benches. One of the Omega's call himself trying to go for bad and tried to fight him and the guy pulled out a gun and shot him. I'm sure that guy who was shot was crying out to Jesus and realized that Greek stuff wasn't worth losing his life over. The stuff you are talking about I can see a Neo talking like that, but you are too old to be talking as you do. ( I assumed you are older since you are married.) I guess some people never mature. When folks become grown you leave childish ways behind. All the men in my family are Greek and I don't ever hear them talking about approaching someone if they were wearing their paraphernalia. My father, brother-in-law, and uncle's could care less about that type of stuff. They have been in these organizations for years and they just don't act the way you do about it.
