Fellas Why do you send text messages? Posted on 02-18-2008

I just wanted to know why do guys send text messages, instead of picking up and calling a woman? I've noticed that in this new generation of dating, that guys are doing a lot of texting. Why not just pick up the phone and call? I'm just wondering why even bother about asking for my number if you are going to text. I feel that you should just ask for my email address if you are going to write. Anyway, fella's give me your thoughts on this and the reason why you do this.

You call 911 and don't say anything. They'll be able to locate your phone. Matter of factly, they'd probably take a 911 call from a cellphone from someone who didn't say anything more seriously than if someone was talking.

^^^This is an interesting discussion. Last year, I fell asleep with my phone on the bed. While sleep, I knocked the phone off the hook a few times. After the 2nd or 3rd time, the sheriff department called me. When I picked up, I thought it was a prank call, but the person sounded very serious. They asked, if I was ok and if I needed assistance. I said no, but they started asking personal questions to make sure it was me. Since I was still weary about the call, I did not answer so he said he was dispatching the cops ASAP. By this time, I decided to check my caller id and it was actually the sheriff department. I was shocked because I did not know that picking your phone up and hanging up is signal for help. Unless you need help, don’t try this!

.but in between times it can get tiring and cumbersome to just be sittin on the phone with someone & thats why i usually stick to texting until i get to the point where im interested enough to hold a vocal conversation. does it bother you to think that the girl texting you sweet nothings could be texting others the same thing? L0l
To reiterate what Superfly said, if the guy you are talking to isn't interesting enough to have an actual conversation with, why even sit there and waste time texting? I have never been to the point where I sit there and text a guy until I'm interested in him. I have never heard of that in my life! LOL If he isn't appealing to me from the beginning, 9 times out of 10 he wouldn't have ever gotten my number! Obviously there wasn't any chemistry going on for you to not want to hear his voice. Also, I consider that very rude to text a person that you have never had a conversation with. Texting should only be reserved for friends and family and never for a person you first meet and trying to get to know. Heck, texting shouldn't even be for friends and family. If it is something important, you need to pick up the phone and call. The only time you should be texting is: if you are on an airplane, in a office meeting, or in the movie theatre. Other than those types of situations, it is rude! By the way, I am a woman. (Referring to your last statement in your reply) LOL

You might have accidently dialed 911. With most cell phones the number 9 is usually the quick dial for 911. I have never heard of them calling your house if you pick the phone up and hang up repeatedly. Interesting.

And thats just your personall opinion. To make a blunt statement and say "it is rude" w/o stating its just your opinion then you're submitting falsified information, because the idea that texting someone is "rude" isnt a moral, therefore making a general statement saying its "rude" is incorrect. Ahha! sorry felt like giving you a hard time.... heehee i know thats mean but hey, i just got out of a three hour sociology class! [[plus Ive had a bad week, need some enlightment.. humor me por favor]]

Okay, in my personal opinion I feel that texting is rude. Does that sound better? LOL

well going along with my theme of supposed situations, if i'm sitting in a "3 hr sociology class" (to borrow what you said^^), i'd rather somebody texted me than called me & disrupted the class. so to answer the original question posted in this thread, my answer is simply one of convenience. in the beginning stages of meeting people, i see nothing rude about instigating casual chatter via text. and to the topic starter, it doesn't necessarily mean that he's not interested..this is 2008, he could simply be busy.

Well, I'm too busy for a negro to sit up and text me all day! LOL I have literally told some guys, "Do not text me" because it takes too long to write back and they still do it. Also, with my phone company it charges per text and I really get hot if guys text me, because I'm like "now I got to pay for your stupid comments?"

****** And people wonder why they get little silly *****s... he's too busy to call you on the phone, but not too busy to type a message to you with his thumbs? HAHAHAHA!! Holy crap!
