See that's the problem. We think that most Blacks are living in the hood and that we aren't excelling. And even Blacks in the"hood" are doing good for their means. Every race has a portion that are the "bad seeds". And people also need to get it out of their heads that only "us" in the hood aren't living right morally and financially all the time. But don't let media make you think that's what we are all about. We have the same notion that Dr. Cosby has and what people fail to realize is that Dr. Cosby spoke from personal opinion not from fact or a study he did. When we as a race stop thinking negatively about our own people, we can excell even greater as a people. They're are suburban parents buying their children Benz's and their child is smoking pot and taking "X".
I think all Cosby is doing is telling us what we don't want to admit. The fact that he does list so many negatives is one thing that I initially did not like, but it's SO MANY people who need to get out of denial, hear what he's saying, and actually confront these problems. His intent isn't to dog people. I agree with you on the fact that black folk in "the hood" and out are not representing our race as they should, and yea, they shouldn't be excluded when problems within our race are mentioned.

It doesn't have anything to do with your downfall? ****. White people OWWWWWWWN this country, and before God as their witness would they not only refuse to hand it over to African-Americans, but they also wouldn't see that yall do any better as time progresses.
Um, newsflash, black people are the reason for their downfalls, and I think that this fact is especially obvious when you've dealt with young black kids in the hood. Not every little black boy can be a rapper-slash-actor, basketball player, NFL star, etc. Too many black kids aren't aware of all the options that are available to them, or just don't give a damn. Their parents aren't smart enough to put a book in their hands instead of a damn video game controller. And these kids grow up, no skills, no goals, average intelligence... and they're supposed to amount to something above average? Black people are our on downfall because either we don't care about whats going on with our kids (collective responsibility) or don't share our resources whether it be time, money, experience or connections... Basic truths
To add in or alter or whatever...It's ALOT of real smart kids here. They just don't have the motivation though. They don't try, they don't see why it matters because they haven't been shown the big picture by the right person.
cosign..there are alot of smart black kids..who juss lack the motivation...cuz they dont see why they should have any & no one shows them...only a small portion actually get that extra push to be somebody... I can vouch 4 dat, cuz I was one of those kids who could help anyone pass a class...but I was juss to lazy to be the one of the top of my own classes..but den I moved out of my initial environment & i got some new teachers who wouldnt quit on me but let me take responsibility for my mistakes...& i also gained some friends who helped me realize where my real priorities were...& i grew up some kids never get that teacher, mentor, or friend...in case their parents aren't havin that effect on them (either cuz they cant or juss neglect to)...which is why as a community (in larger numbers) we should focus on kids who are bein undermotivated & neglected...cuz we're goin so downhill w/ each generation...smh

The black community has a lot to blame for its problems. My personal belief is that the preceding generations lost much of it's commitment to the community and decided that they as the individual were more important than the community. For example, in a family where there are 3 children, one of those children may do very well and live in the suburbs while, another will scratch and survive, and the other can end up with an addiction to ****. Of those three, their children will live the life, survive, and have a hell of an existance, respectively. How is this allowed to happen within a family? People have inherited a "me and mine" attitude that doesn't stretch far beyond themselves, a spouse and their kids. This has spread to the community. But enough of listing all the problems and what is the cause and all that. What do we do about it? We behave as descendents of Kane (Kane and Abel). Let's be our brother keeper.

NICE!!.. i am not usually a cosigner but you speak the truth. So exactly what are WE going to do about it, it makes me think back to the Talented Tenth, blacks in university, thats about tenth of the black community.. hrmm i just thought about that.. well..

According to this thread, you are wrong. But generally, although it's a good statement...I think you are also wrong. The downfall is the amount of hatred towards the white man and vice versa; and the lack of effort to get rid of it.
Even though i'd hate to agree with him, he's kinda right, naturally black people are a forgiving people, thats just how we are. I honestly thing if we stop blaming the illusive "white man" we can get stuff done, stop blaming the white boys get of your **** and do something. Yes i do agree they need to stop the racisim towards us as a people but they are not going to do that, black people need to take back what is rightfully theirs, industries, financial districts, neighborhoods, education systems, government, the damn country, but until we get out of the mentally that we are crippled by the system we will be "crippled" by the system. Slavery is over, mentally slavery still exisits. Its time to break out of that shell. Same with the Koreans who are Fresh off the boat, and open up a chicken shop or hair salon or nail place in YOUR NEIGHBORHOOD, and black companies fail because you are supporting their children going to Harvard while your kid is at CCBC (community college), aint nothing wrong with community college but our people can strive for so much higher. I had something else to say but i forgot it. damnit i hate when that happens..

Thank you. The problem with the solution is that most would see it as unlawful. That is a problem. And that is the power known as teh whiteness is in control.
