HAMPTON UNIVERSITY ****!!! Posted on 07-11-2004

Hey I can relate to you some....campus life does get a little better during the fall because they tend to have more parties. But a lot of times you have to create your own fun. Of course coming from up North or from a big city it's going to be boring. I don't know from personal expericence but because my best friend happened to be from New York. I know it **** that you can't have a car your freshmen or sophmore year, but u can always work around that one. Try to befriend upper classmen so that you can get a ride to Norfolk, because the mall downtown is nice....there is three levels. Plus there is Va beach, Bush Garden's, and Kings Dominion which isn't too far....it's all about connections and finding means of transportation. During the regular school year especially in the fall there are football games and stuff. For some people after a while it kind of grows on you and then for some other people it just isn't for them. The cafe food...*laughs* There isn't anything positive I can say about that..I know I avoided the cafe a many of days...

^^^And someone once cosigned. Holla at me when I'm paying ya bills because some of your attitudes won't fly at any university. I'm tired of having to defend the baseless stereotypes and misconceptions placed on my university. HU isn't the perfect school...get over it. I swear some folks waste more of their time talking negatively about my school than they do speaking positively about their own...and that's a problem. Its wild because Hampton students don't waste our time degrading other schools...I mean yeah the cracks at Howard...but damn some folks are professional Hampton Haters.

True... and it lets me know I made the right choice. They wouldn't hate if we were doing everything wrong. I like your pic, Megan! Pretty.

I don't know why anyone would want to go to college and carry around a **** mentality in the first place. Someone said this before, but i am just going to repeat it, THUGS DON'T GO TO COLLEGE. i mean if u think ur a **** in college, ur a wannabe county negro plain and simple.

Let me start off by being honest....I HATED Hampton when I first got there! Couldn't stand it, actually, the whole first year. And I wasn't alone. I won't go into all the reasons, and I even thought serioulsy about transferring. IM SOOOOOO GLAD I didn't do it though. The people however were NEVER an issue, I always thought they were very real, down to earth, average black college students (despite the untrue and sickening myths  ) I will be honest, your first year may be kinda tough, especially if you already have this mentality. But a few hundred students straight out of HS compared to a few THOUSAND college students will make the first difference. As soon as Sept gets here, the people are back, the parties start, REAL classes start, the games start (watch the atmosphere change when we beat up on the other hu), and when everybody gets on campus, you will notice a difference. After freshman year, This is what will change.....you will meet a lot of cool people from different places, and get more respect from the females being an upperclassmen. Everyone will start to take you more seriously. That "where you from" mess wears off after freshman year, so the fact that you are from NY won't matter to anyone anymore. You will know a lot of people (unless you are not social at all), and many with cars. In turn, you will be able to experience more of what the area has to offer (even though its not a whole lot). You will talk to other people attending OTHER schools and realize Hampton is no different (esp from other HBCUs), in many ways even better, and they are complaining about the same things and wanna leave too, TRUST ME. The social atmosphere, educational experience, athletic events are some of the best you will experience at any school, but......ITS ALSO ALL ABOUT WHAT YOU MAKE IT. HIU isn't one of the most highly demanded HBCUs for no reason. People don't love it for no reason, or because we are "settling". Anyway tho, YOU ARE IN PRE-COLLEGE. No, its not gonna be all that. As for the area, that is one of the downfalls. But honestly, the most fun moments I had at HIU were the on-campus events anyway- in OGDEN (Envy era- DJ Envy used to DJ all of Ogden functions till my jr. year) sooo hype, as well as house parties, the cabs, the Spring atmosphere events, the off campus parties, the games (which we have a tradition of winning by the way), and just goin out chillin with your peoples. Its a little extreme to say Hampton is in the middle of nowhere, Hampton alone is nuthing, Norfolk is across the water, VA Beach about 20 mins, Richmond 1 hour, but its part of one of the largest metro areas in the country, if nothing else you atleast have bout 8 malls, beaches, theme parks, clubs, all kinds of restaurants, movie theatres, other colleges, etc., and most importantly off campus people scattered throughout the whole city. If you still think HIU is so lame, then transfer, atleast then you can say you had the "true Hampton experience" and didn't like it. Until then, don't say it, cuz you really don't know one way or the other yet. And as for the **** mentality, no one is hatin on thugs, but you can't survive AT ANYONE'S SCHOOL tryin to be a ****, even NSU (no smack intended).
