HBCU or Ivy? Posted on 04-06-2005

I know I posted this question in another forum but I want to know what the peeps in here think. OK...I always wanted to go to Howard University but recently I have been accepted to a white prestigious school here in california. My fellow classmates and educators except me to attend this other school all because of it's name. Certain individuals feel that i shouldn't choose an HBCU over an "Ivy" type but I feel that I always have graduate school. So why not be in a better environment for undergrad around what I am familar with. However, I still have that opportunity. So, if you were in my shoes which one would you choose? And please don't say "Follow Your Heart" it's good advice but it doesn't help. So HBCU or IVY? If you're wondering I am talking about Stanford. I know it's not a real Ivy but California peeps tend to think it's the Ivy of the West. Danielle Future c/o '09 Carson, Cali

I know this because it's ovious. If you could count you could see that obvious fact for what it is too.

Okay now everyone lets get back to the topic. I' am having a similar problem I have been accepted 2 Hampton, but also to harvard. Hampton @ the current moment is giving me the run around with financial aid and Harvard has a free tuition program and is not giving me the run around. I don't want 2 go 2 harvard and not have the "good" experience of an HBCU. Help Me!!!!!!!!

to be completely hoenst many times professors from PRESTIGIOUS ivy league schools also teach at HBCU's on the side, so in essence you may be getting the same education at and ivy league school that you get at an hbcu. Also depending upon which school offers you the most money as far as scholarship, may also play a vital role. Also in the work force they often don't really focus on what undergrad u went to but the graduate school. Cuz i'm goin to Hampton, but i goin to grad at Georgetown Law. But if the local school is what you would feel more comfortable with then go for it, but make sure whichever school u go to is best for your particular major.

Yea, thanks Paradise. When I was going through that whole choices and decisions time, I figured that I could get the best of bost worlds with that exchange program and spend more of my time at the school I really wanted to go to. So thank you for the suggestion, I appreciate it.
