Question!!! Posted on 12-12-2005
OohSheNIICE

I've been viewing this part of the hbcuconnect message board and I've seen alot of people come on and ask questions and alot of people get attitudes when someone just wants to know an answer. I can understand if someone is tryin to diss your organization or ask personal things about your pledging process, but alot of times if someone asks something simple, some of yall will get rude and try to go off. Is it really that deep to try to go off on someone over the internet that you dont even know? Do you think thats going to make you appear any smarter or prove your point any more? If you see a post that you don't wanna answer, can't you just skip it? I mean, maybe they really did want the question asked, maybe they really didnt know the answer. I'm pretty sure you didnt know everything about every greek organization. Yahoo! GOOGLES, ASKJEEVES, and MSN might not answer all the questions someone is wanting to know. Maybe they want to ask a member of that organization personally. If you view the index part of the board it says right under the greek forum "Kappas Step...... Sigmas Step.......... Aight........... Whats Really Good.... Ask question about ya Favorite Greek Fam or Rep ya Letters!!" So if they are doing what the description says, why get upset alot of the times when stuff shouldnt be a biggie?

Incorrect Statement.
This ought to be good ::gets popcorn::
Save your popcorn. The young lady made an incorrect statement, I pointed it out, so let's move on.
Who are you? She actually made a very good point. Many people seem to have the mindset that these are clubs, when in fact they are NOT. Why don't you explain yourself? Why was her statement incorrect?
1) Who I am is not the issue. 2) No she did not. 3) Most started out as clubs or study groups. 4) Webster's Dictionary secret-kept from knowledge or view society-a voluntary association of individuals for common ends

Can you relate your statements to Greek lettered organizations on black college campuses?

I'm not an **** on here. Find examples of me being an **** besides in this message. I'm not an **** at all. I just said that this was a dumb post. Um... me dumb? No honey, this is Mensa material right here. Next time you want to call someone dumb, how about you find someone who isn't a certified genius. This is a pointless argument if you could even call it that. And trust me when I say that I have more of a life than you ever will dear. Moving on. :smt120

1) Who I am is not the issue. 2) No she did not. 3) Most started out as clubs or study groups. Thats how they may have started, however that is now the past. These are fraternal organizations which go much more deep that any club could go. 4) Webster's Dictionary secret-kept from knowledge or view society-a voluntary association of individuals for common ends
Can you relate your statements to Greek lettered organizations on black college campuses?
No, because it isn't my words I mean, you said them sooo.........how does it support the point you are trying to make? and two why would I just single out chapters at HBCU's? Greek-life on a white campus vastly differs from that of an HBCU campus. Even the BGLO's on white campuses are different. The situations that are brought up in this forum mostly occur on HBCU campuses.

The point is that there is a big difference between "A Secret Society" and "A Society with Secrets." Based upon the aims and ideals of most collegiate soceities, with the exception of Skull & Bones, Scroll & Key et al., would not fit into the Secret Society description. Although, now with the plethora of information about Skull & Bones coupled with the movies loosely based off of the org, the Secret Society designation would not be applicable now. So, a society which is known by the public but has esoteric information for members only is a lot different from an org that is not known and it's members are informed of potential membership without actively seeking it.
