TO PAPER OR NOT TO PAPER Posted on 05-19-2004
Soundcheck 1898

We all know hazing is "Illegal" (riiiiiight)... but still occurs anyway regardless of how watchful the eye is on big brother and whatever guidelines they have. However, every once in a while the the opportunity presents itself to some folk to go paper. Some do... some choose to work for theirs. I just want to here from those in any GLO, their feelings about the whole going paper scenario. Right now i'm semi-neutral because now that i'm on the other side I understand the whole not wanting to jeopardize getting your chapter kicked off the yard over somebody who complains plus the fact that this past semester was far from fun and i'm really not the type to want to pass that on to somebody else, however, i still feel people should work for their letters in some kind of way, feel me? What do you think?

Thats really interesting, because that doesn't happen at HU.....and I've never seen a sign for "rush" for fraternities at HU. Different schools do it differently.
Not like that at My school either. There's just interest meetings and informationals

^^Then it must've been within your own org for you to have seen it
Nope, it was yours as a matter of fact. All 85 of them. On their merry way. All signed papers. matter of fact, there was no option with those girls, they had to sign the papers. But im not even gonna get into that. i dont think any organization can actually say they dont have members who signed papers and werent on their merry way. Nobody is exempt from that
~deep sigh~ AGAIN. You are spewing hear-say! You saw 85 girls sign papers, riiiiiight. Look at what your typing and think of how it looks on your part being that you are not AKA  I hope you get my drift...
Uh huh. u act like it actually takes a rocket scientist to figure out that they signed papers and did nothing. Plus, my friend told me she doesnt see why she should have to get beat to be in AKA and she's glad she came in the way she did. Of course i gave her the  look b/c she doesnt understand. but thats how she chose to come in and this is how i chose to come in. Its still all love. But to say that nobody in any organization signs papers and is on their merry way is kinda dumb to me. if im misinterpreting your ?, then excuse the reply. There's skaters in every organization and after they get their letters, some dont even come around anymore. Thats why im glad my chapter tries to be a little choosy picking our girls and we try n get to know them. We dont just choose whoever applies or whoevers mother is a Zeta
       Member of ABC: "Guurrrl I heard the AKAs is all paper!" Member of DEF: "Yeah gurrrl I heard that too, they aint got no battle marks so you know it gotta be true!" Member of ABC: "Well I know for a fact that they all signed papers it's (enter a # here) of them and ....well....I just know they all are some skaters!" Member of DEF: "Gurrrrl yeah "so and so" told me that too so you know it HAS to be true!" Member of ABC: "Um hum girl I know it is, I know it is" Please keep going, yall are hilarious!
No see, i dont think u understand when i say that your soror told me this. Maybe u need to tell them to learm to be discreet about their process. Then again, its quite obvious.

Yeah, it bugged me out when people from other school's explained how they do, because here its mandatory and you have to sign in if u have an interest in any organization. I guess they want you to hear about all of them before you make your choice. The make a big **** announcement and the whole atmosphere of the campus changes that day. Kinda eerie and intense at the same time.

Yea...that sounds kinda eerie and it almost sounds like everybody is in ur business. Your interests should be private until its ur day to shine. But oh well.

I wonder the percentage of folks who go greek at Morehouse...its probably high for the school to embrace it so openly. I know from around Rush and informationals time through Spring semester the administration is on its toes at Hampton. It seems like a interesting tradition...similar to how PWIs handle Rush.

My brother pledged Kappa at Morehouse on the first line they had when they came back on the yard. He explained how the "Rush" was, and I was shocked. Most mainstream universities operate that way. I was shocked to hear that Morehouse did that as well.

To me, all the general rush meeting at Morehouse is just to let everybody know that hazing isn't tolerated at Morehouse, and what to do if something were to occur. **** already know what org's room they're going to after that.

I don't understand why someone would want to be paper. Yes, in some cases the line does not have a choice (Grad Chapter brings in an Undergrad line), but I would rather wait or transfer to another campus. I miss my process and probate, mainly because it was the last time I will see my whole line all at once and it changed me in a good way. The bond you get when you are made is irreplaceable. You get a whole new view of the world because you are pushed to your limits. However, why work hard to join and then do nothing once you make it. When I see bro's that don't work for the frat unless it will benefit them socially or for what ever reason, I get more upset at that than when I see someone that didn't go through a "process" working hard to achieve. I just don't respect the decision not to work for the back of your jacket. No matter if you are paper or made, you get the letters. But the "process" gives you a line name and a more respectful Love for the frat/sorority. It’s an experience that can be talked about for the rest of your life. What conversation can there be when two people that are paper talk about going through their “signing” :?: None what so ever, other than what kind of pen did you use. You can sit around with your line and Frat/Sorority for hours talking about your “Process.” All for my Frat…I Love my K A PSI and my PHI NU PI. The easy road is by far not the best road to take when it comes to Frat’s and Sororities. That’s just the way it goes…no questions asked. If it’s not in your heart, don’t even go to the interest meeting, save the Frat or Sorority a lot of time. Stereotypes are just that…stereotypes. I hear a lot of people say stuff like “I don’t like Kappa’s because they are this that and the other,” or “All AKA’s are such and such.” The list can go on and on for each Frat and Sorority. Please do not judge a book by its cover. You don’t like because I am a member of a certain organization. That’s shows how shallow and immature people actually are. In some cases the stereotypes might be true about certain people. Let the comment stop at that person and not extend to the whole chapter or organization.

"Yes, in some cases the line does not have a choice (Grad Chapter brings in an Undergrad line)" No, No, No!!! You can't even say that. I am not ashamed to say that I was brought over by a Grad Chapter in undergrad. We didn't have any Delta's on our hard. Best believe when we had the line everyone and their momma, aunt, cousin, sista came back. Those ladies (young and EVEN THE OLD!!) aint NO JOKE. Older members are not as sweet as seem...shocked the hell out of me. Also, not all Grad's crossed grad.

Tell it!!!! Some grad chapters and chapter members don't play. I will not call a chapter or organization's name. But...there is this grad chapter of XYZ who runs the sets for the undergrad, because the undergrad chapter has one more time to get in trouble before losing the chapter. The undergrad chapter is able to keep its nose clean, but they are also assured that there will be no skaters.
