HAMPTON UNIVERSITY ****!!! Posted on 07-11-2004

Hey I can relate to you some....campus life does get a little better during the fall because they tend to have more parties. But a lot of times you have to create your own fun. Of course coming from up North or from a big city it's going to be boring. I don't know from personal expericence but because my best friend happened to be from New York. I know it **** that you can't have a car your freshmen or sophmore year, but u can always work around that one. Try to befriend upper classmen so that you can get a ride to Norfolk, because the mall downtown is nice....there is three levels. Plus there is Va beach, Bush Garden's, and Kings Dominion which isn't too far....it's all about connections and finding means of transportation. During the regular school year especially in the fall there are football games and stuff. For some people after a while it kind of grows on you and then for some other people it just isn't for them. The cafe food...*laughs* There isn't anything positive I can say about that..I know I avoided the cafe a many of days...

I will tell anyone to give Hampton at least one year. First of all, don't do yourself a disservice by being a quitter. Quitters never win, and winners never quit. Transferring would be taking the easy way out, and missing out on a great opportunity to be around and network with some of the brightest, most positive African Americans in the world. There is nothing like it. I do not think anyone chooses to attend Hampton University because of its location in Virginia. VA is never gonna be the hot spot, but you can always find something to do. I realize it is probably pretty difficult coming from New York where you probably had your car, and even if you didn't, you could get around on the subways, busses, and even find something in walking distance, but keep in mind that you are leaving America's largest/most crowded city to come to a small city. Hamptonians make a way to get the job done. You will meet plenty of people with cars who don't mind taking you places, because we all went through the same struggle (Im so glad those days are over). Either way, you'll survive. At Hampton, you truly make your own fun, and the parties on or off campus are not that bad...especially the cabarets. Honestly, I heard that pre-college was pretty wack THIS year. Every other year, it sounded like they had a lot of fun. Part of that is due to the administration, and the other part is due to the people there. When you have people that are negative, complain about everything, stay in the dorm rooms, and act anti-social...yeah, its gonna be wack...that just makes YOUR class look wack when ya'll get to Hampton for real though. ONYX VII will NOT be wack though, ya'll just need some help. Upperclassmen will help get ya'll right. Just be hype when you arrive.

I'm sorry that I found this post so late, but anyway Ill try 2 put in ma little 2 sense, awhile at the same time straightening up somefatcs about tha summer program @ Hampton. As far as the whole summer experience at Hampton, ill have 2 say that it did have it's rough times. The majority of the summer I spent creating my own fun, i.e. going 2 tha courts n watching games, going 2 tha parties every weekend, (n yes there were parties), and sometimes just chillin outside talkin 2 people. The majority of the other activites that were planned for us did get cancelled, but that is mainly due 2 the pre-college staff which where mostly new to the positions. I am also aware that because precollege was only composed of a little over 500 people, and our entering freshman class will be about 1400 (almost triple that #), the fall will be a completely different environment. In reference to the comments made about coming from a big city, I am from baltimore, which is anotha big eastcoast city, and am also used 2 having my own car n always having something 2 do..but i still made hampton work 4 me. Nearly all of ma friends from precollege came from big cities on tha eastcoast, and had 2 adjust tha same way. The only negative remarks i heard about New York while i wuz there, wuz that New York bois were 2 cocky. But putting all that aside, most of my male friends were from New York. Just know that regardless of where u are from there will always be negative stereotypes about you, similar to the whole Baltimore n DC beef. Although I talked about Hampton tha whole time I was there, I cant wait 2 return @ tha end of the month. I still keep in contact with ma friends from ova tha summer n anxiously await 2 c them n tha fall. Alright im done, but 2 tha NY cat who started this, if eva u need anotha friend on ya hampton list, im there...hope ya experience n tha fall is betta than ova tha summer!

Yeah, what happened to Pre-college? I never went, but I remember my fellow classmates that went talked about how hype it was when they went, and all formed a bond up until the time they graduated. Whats goin on now? PLEASE ONYX VII don't come in with negative attitudes. You all are now Hampton's biggest freshman class. Pres. Harvey is back (Thank God), the football team is gonna be good, we have some excellent home and classic games this year, the band is expected to be much improved, Ogden should be completed?? The kinks from last year should be worked out (as far as student activities) and I hear there might be some serious changes in Homecoming, and lastly.....YOU ARE AT HAMPTON U. There's no reason not to have pride and to be hype, especially when you far outnumber the upperclassmen! REPRESENT YOUR CLASS, Even though I rep QTIV, Onyx is hype 2  BRING IT!!

This year is going to be better period because its a Home F-Ball season meaning more parties...all the schools are coming to us...meaning New Faces on weekends.... I'm serious but it seems like F-Ball dictates how much fun 1st semester is gonna be. I mean look...we have Howard coming the 2nd week, A&T, BCC for homecoming, Norfolk...we have some big games coming to Armstrong Stadium this year...With after parties to follow

You see, this is what happens when you settle for a sub-par carbon copy as opposed to the original!
Sweetie, trust this: IF HOWARD WERE THE BEST HBCU IN THE COUNTRY, I WOULD BE THERE. Just something to think about... if I could have went to Morehouse, I would have. And I'll send you copies of all the begging Howard did to get me to go there  ... So much for originals. I'm done.
umm since when does where you go decide what HBCU is the best  .....Hampton is just the best for you sweetie

oh yeah and to the creator of this post. I think you should at least go a full semester during the regular school year before you decide that Hampton ****. Howard's campus was boring when I was there the first summer school session and we are in the nation's capital. Things are a lot different when all the students are there with games to go to and events to attend. No school is really gonna go all out for pre-college during the summer. Give it a chance, your feelings might change.
