i guess the definition of " running the yard" differs in the south then it does on the west coast..I guess u jave to win all the stepshows, be the most seen on campus, and have the most amount om members in order to " run the yard" * shrugs* i guess you can throw the idea of actually doing work on campus, holding positions, putting on events, and doing community service out the window huh... :?
This is so true. Now and days people only go by what they SEE and not by who is doing the most WORK...but hey, what are you gonna do :?
all i can do is continue to hold up the light of my Org, and do what comes natural...i mean actions speaks louder then chants, visual ****, and quantity

Yes phrat, things are defintely different down south as compared to the West Coast. Being a WEST COAST chica myself and a student at an HBCU in the south, I can definitely see the differences in Greek life. "Runnin it" down south means those who are "seen" the most, those who have real deep lines  and those who win all the step shows/have the best party hops. WE are 'runnin' my yard right now and I can say this with all honesty because NO ONE does more community service work/campus social activities than we do. When people say "them AKAs at BC is runnin thangs" the first thing they compliment us on is not our step show wins nor our off tha chain party hops, it's the amount of SERVICE we do  and how we carry ourselves that gets the respect PHIRST 8) .
and i respect yall for that..thats what i can appreciate...Fucc a stepshow and a party....do some service in your community...if you got the numbers then utilize them other then a " showcase"..i mean we have 10 in our chapter but we do the damn thing.....cause in all honesty i dont want 50+ **** in my chapter if only 15 is actually gonna do the work of the frat....but see i have the best of both worlds..if my **** go to a party and dont get in till 3 and i got a community service at 8 the next morning..i get my **** us go to starbucks and keep it pushing...and i step too...so im not saying being out by steppin and partying is bad...im saying that should not be what people base there decision on " whos runs it" on...thats just whack as hell.....u say u from the west coast...what part??? Cali?washington, or oregon

The Sigma's run Howards yard
Hmm... I wouldnt necessarily say all that. The Sigmas represent. However, the Ques are on the yard every friday rain or shine and they are super crunk. As far as the ladies, I would have to give it to the Deltas cause they are deep as hell and they put on many quality programs. The AKAs havent had a line since 2001 so that explains that. The SGRhos just crossed 3.... everyone is representing nicely, but the Ques and the Deltas are holding it down at the HU right now.
didnt know u had to be deep to run it
The AKAs at Howard didnt have but a handful of folks but won sorority of the year and raised all types of money for Africare. So you are right, you dont have to be deep, but visibility is important.

ok point of clarification..." running the yard" does not constitute how many members you have on campus, how many yard shows u set out, how much your seen walkin around...Running the yard, is putting on events on campus, having your orgs name in the mouths of high officials on a daily basis, how much community service u do..u say you dont see my frat on campus??? maybe there in class or in the library, or at work...we Men Of Alpha Have better theings to do then just chill on campus...
I don't know about other school's in the south, but at mine, "running" the yard is mos def not about numbers and step shows. Yeah we like to see our organization take the show, but we also commend those who the community sees doing the work. We praise the ones who put forth effort to do the things these founders set out to do. On our campus I gotta give it to the Alpha with their overall BANGIN GPA, the Delta's for some of the community events I've seen them do, we have reps from almost the entire pan holding SGA offices, my sorors have been puttin in HARD work within the community and schools here, and others are doing the work too. We all know who on this yard can party hop, throw the best parties, and who had the biggest intake, but "running" the yard is not about that here.

da alphas & deltas aint neva on da yard @ HU da ques b holdin it down da AKAs r a bunch of trifflin hoes
Huh, okay at the time this post was written, there were barely any AKAs on the yard so how could they be triflin hoes? Anyway... I would say that, as of Fall 2005, the AKAs hold down a ridiculously high percentage of all major offices on Howard's campus, like 80% or some other crazy off the top of my head number. The Deltas will probably continue to hold down the yearbook into infinity lol. The Alphas do hold down the power hall (as someone said before) but the Ques scored a real coup in 2004 when one of their own was elected HUSA (Howard U Student Association) President. Then of course his VP was an AKA. I know some potential future Kappas that could be doing a lot for Xi chapter if only it were around. I want a yard that reflects the NBHCrainbow hehehe Oh yeah... no doubt Kenya. Big ups to BW the Pres of the School of C, holding it down with my LS JO who is serving as his lovely VP. Oh and a shameless plug for myself who will be serving as the VP of my class this year with my bff and ls KH serving as my Prez.

At my school the Alphas are the deepest they do alot of community service.... and they are the loudest.... but to me they are not running the yard.... I feel that this year the Sigmas ran the yard..... they held the most informative events and they really did alot of things for the campus.... Alll of our fraternities contribute though.... The Deltas run the yard for the sororities even though the AKA's are the deepest.... The Delta's seem to do more services and things of that nature. The AKA's did win the Stepshow that was a great performance. I can't wait to see what this year will bring.... I honestly hope that we get alot of greek unity and the greeks just run the yard..... with no specific greek organization individually having to run the yard. It's hard work trying to run the yard so if they share then everybody can run the yard.... hmmmm I know it sounds cheesy but thats what i would like to see.
