so i assume all the universitys in NO are tarnished? or are going to be closed for a good few weeks.
Right now...N.O. schools are out til December. (I'd just transfer or somethin) They have to get power, which is gonna take months.
I'm at LSU, in Baton Rouge, and we've been out since Monday and don't go back til Tuesday. Luckily, LSU has their own power system because we never lost power on campus.
Last night, a friend of mine from N.O. was really sad/upset b/c she was talking to her mom(her fam. evacuated to Dallas) and her mom was saying how they're not gonna open up the bridge. Meaning, they're just gonna let N.O. naturally go back to being a river or somethin like that. Which means the city would be buried under water. That's really sad. Supposedly, it would save a lot of money if they were to let that happen.
yeah I heard the same thing...it will cost too much to rebuild that entire city. Most of the levees surrounding the city have failed, and they would have to repair them...and even if they do, they still have to pump the water out. And by the time they do that, it will be around christmas. And even then, most of the buildings have sustained some structural damage. So yeah they're talkin about not rebuilding there...right now tho they'e evacuating the rest of the city since it's all about to be under water. So all those people who left...they're not gonna be able to return to NO anytime soon. They might as well just look for another city to live in. It's really sad man...
Damn man. Stuff like this is what makes me appreciate what I got man. The other day I was complaining to myself about how I'm SO ready to move out and on with my life away from home or whatever....
This type of stuff really puts things in perspective. It's a crying shame that so many people are suffering like this because of a natural disaster. I really feel bad now, seeing as how when I started this thread I named it "Goodbye New Orleans", now it may be a very real possibility. All of the loss of life, jobs, homes, and basically the whole city...it's got me a little shook up for real.
The people who I really feel sorry for are the poor/less fortunate folks who dont know what they're going to do.
Ummmmmmmmm Yeah I feel for all those peopel.......but y'all aint talkin right......they would lose money if they DONT fix the levees........the ENTIRE city aint DESTROYED........given that once they fix the levees and REinforce them......the actual pumping out after they get the power back on.......it could take over 2 MONTHS 2 pump all tha water out.........but it still will be DUMB 2 not fix the little damage that has occurred......New Orleans brings MILLIONS upon MILLIONS to Louisiana each year.....and they NEED that money 2 bring the state back 2 life and KEEP it that way........
so what's the deal with Xavier and Dillard???...should I still apply for fall 2006??...
this whole situation is so **** and depressing...someone in our band has family lost in New Orleans...
gas is like $3.30 a gallon over here...
man...it's just so surreal...it's like a nightmare...
^^^yea I totally agree man
but what I stated previously what I had heard were RUMORS...nothin more nothin less. And Bush got on TV today and said it would take YEARS to rebuild the city...so that's not LITTLE damage. And with the location of New Orleans (in a bowl)...this storm could have happened on ANY president's watch. So please stop bashing Bush...Just the way the city was built (in a bowl) was just basically a disaster waiting to happen. I just feel bad about all the people who will be in Houston in the Astrodome for AT LEAST a month. They might as well start looking for a job in Houston or somewhere in Texas, because there is not much left in New Orleans, businesses are GONE, power wont even be back on for another 3 months or so...that's crazy.

Yes, if there is no New Orleans, then Louisiana as a state will be in a bad shape. Louisiana is already one of the poorest sttates in the south
New Orleans is DONE. The best thing to do is drain the city, bulldoze it all and rebuild it into a more industial town.
But then there would be outcries of racism.

LITTLE??!
aye.........they was calling for tha ENTIRE CITY 2 be under 25+ feet of water.....so 5-8 is a LITTLE..........sad I know but its true......
Man, I just graduated from XU (THANK GOD) but it was a sad sight to see looking at CNN and my poor school is flooded. If you want to see the footage go to CNN.com and search for the video "When The Levees Break." About 14 seconds into the stream, you see the campus with all of the green roof tops. The school that took soo much to get in the first place is all messed up. It's not like we get money from the state, so the students are gonna have to rebuild that school one way or another. Yes there are people still on campus, and yes it was messed up how things went as far as evacuation went, but gladly they are given food and water daily by boat. Last I heard, everyone was okay, but they were not top priority at the time because there were people still stranded in their homes.
Hey DR. ASH DO U KNO WHAT THE LINK IS TO IT BECAUSE I CANT FIND IT....
AND KAMI DO U KNO IF ANYONE WHO ACTUALLY STAYED?
I FEEL LIKE I JUST HAVE A MASSIVE HEADACHE BUT MY MOM IS TALKING TO A BUNCH OF SCHOOLS THAT R WILLING TO TAKE IN STUDENTS FROM THE GULF AREA AND THEYRE CALLING THE HOUSE AND IM LIKE CAN I AT LEAST HAVE A DAY TO RELAX AND ABSORB WHAT IS HAPPENING BEFORE I START PLANNING THE REST OF MY SEMESTER? I MEAN YES I KNO I HAVE TO GO SOMEWHERE AND VA DOES HAVE SOME PRETTY GOOD SCHOOLS BUT NO ONE IN MY HOUSE REALLY UNDERSTANDS WHAT I FEELING RIGHT NOW.... BUT I THINK ILL BE OK ONCE THIS WEEK IS OVER!
yall do realize that Fema wouldn't be so strained if the national guard wasn't deployed like they were. Situations like this are their exact purpose. But we Just HAD to keep tha war going strong
