I was just wondering which HBCUs are known to have the highest academic standards and best reputation for excellence? I did a little research on it before, but the only schools I can still remember are...

I know there were at least one or two more on my original list, but can't remember what they were. Any glaring omissions?
Also, what academic area are these schools best known for? For example, I know FAMU has an excellent reputation for business.
Finally, what are the top 2 or 3 HBCUs to attend for an education degree?
I know that's a lot of info to ask for, but I have 3 or 4 friends considering attending HBCUs that are asking me for advice, and I don't know enough to tell them. Thanks in advance for any help.

HOWARD = Black Harvard (speaks for itself)
FISK = Black Yale (Both share school nicknames -Bulldogs, and very strong academics)
MOREHOUSE = Black Columbia or Penn
SPELMAN = Black Vassar, Smith, or Wellesley (All-Female 7 sister thing)
TUSKEGEE = Black MIT (Science and engineering thing)
XAVIER = Black Notre Dame or Georgetown (Catholic school thing)
HAMPTON = Black Stanford (Private Institution with Great athletics and academics)
FLORIDA A & M = Black University of Michigan (Public Institution with great football and academics)

There is not much they have in common plus we have a very unique history.In other words why would any school want to be called the "black Harvard of the south"?? Youre not Harvard,Standford,Penn and never will be!!!
I don't want to get into the argument regarding "Harvard" - I really think it is a silly point. But one of the reasons I want to attend a HBCU is because I thought that their campus would foster an environment where we lift up each other and learn to work together and respect black american. All you guys have been doing is criticizing and using the white institutions as the role models and what we aspire to be. We must learn to respect one another - no matter what HBCU you attend. They are all are doing good things for black students. They are all offering higher education to some who might not would receive it otherwise. Competition between colleges can be healthy but lets not continue to tear one another down - this continues to be black america's downfall. I respect you all for continuing your education and attending HBCU's.

why was this confrontation brought up about Hampton in the first place?? we all attend HBCU's so we should all be proud whatever school we go to, why look down on any school. As an objective party I say that Hampton is a very good school no matter what they call themselves so why hate? I mean we all are reaching our goals anywayz right?
^^^ That's what I'm saying...I mean "Harvard of the South" is rarely used today but that was a common phrase a while ago. I love my "Home By The Sea" regardless...I know yall pay too much money at your institutions to worry about what lil ol' Hampton is doing.
