Never Outshine The Master Posted on 07-25-2006

Each day I am going to list one of Robert Green's 48 Laws Of Power. I'd like to hear your personal experiences related to THIS law where you were the one observing the law in action, utilizing the law or the one on the other end. Today let's look at: Law One - NEVER OUTSHINE THE MASTER Always make those above you feel comfortable in their sense of superiority. In your desire to please or impress them do not go too far in displaying your talents or you might accomplish the opposite - inspire fear and insecurity. Make them appear more brilliant than they are - and you will attain the heights of power.

Hopefully you will own your own business one day. If you do move from retail to an office job, sometimes when a person to whom you report feels that you are trying to "outdo" them they will label you as someone who is not a Team Player. This label is more often than not the beginning of the end to employment with some companies.
