Hope you guys have better experiences than these people
This school is the worst. The campus life is dull and majority of the people are snooty and lame. The dorms need to be condemned because they are so old and the janitors pick and choose when they will clean them. I will suggest to anyone if you come to Hampton make sure you tour the campus on a regular school day and not a planned tour day because they will only show you the best things which is the student center. The cafeteria is beyond horrible in which they are about to be shut down because of their filthiness and the food is the most nastiness on this earth. I very happy that I am transferring after this year because this school year at Hampton was a nightmare. I just don't believe this school is worth 23,000 dollars a year, it should just be worth 5,000 year. More detail
Hampton is just an overall disgusting school. It is like someone who is completely uneducated and ****, dressing up in a suit and making us think they are something that they are not. Hampton students and alumni try to use the fact that they are a better school than NSU (neighboring HBCU)to make them feel they are better than others. They take the whole "Private School" issue to a whole new level. I once believed that Hampton was going to be the school for me. When my parents and I visited the school, we were simply outraged. It was like a whole bunch of project babies running loose in Prada & Gucci. These kids know they can not afford their tuition, but they are wearing top designer clothing. They have ridiculous rules, the students are ashamed of their heritage, the facilities are dirty, the dorms are low budget, and I could go on forever. Yet I will spare you this time and just say; DO NOT GO TO HAMPTON FOR YOUR OWN GOOD!!!!!
Hampton is disgusting and I am outraged by the administrative system. I have constantly been promised money to help me.
I am one of 7 students who was promised a scholarship and then all of a sudden after Hampton is like "Pay Me! Pay Me! Pay Me," my money to help support me is gone. The orchestra teacher told me he was going to give me a scholarship for helping him out. Comes to find out people who had scholarships prior to mine havent even gotten theirs.
College food is nasty but Hampton's food just took **** bad food to a new level. They have failed many tests and have the nerve to lie in my face about it. One guy I asked at the cafeteria about the food said he wouldnt eat it. And to tell you the truth all of the people who work at the Cafe stopped eating the food.
Overall I hate the dorms, the food, the education is ok, the area is dull, the people are nice, but there are a lot of snooty people. I dont like the school and I do plan on transferring. But dont let this get you down. You may like it because we all see different things in life. More detail
If I could describe Hampton University in one word, it would be horrible. Where do I begin? OK, before I came here, I was like wow, hampton has a pretty good reputation and the students seem real and down to earth. But when I got here, I quickly relaized that wasn't the case. There are a lot of snobs at this school that come from average families. I had to laugh cuz it's funny that these people think they are rich and better than everyone else because they are wearing top designer clothing when they know that they can't afford their tution. HOWEVER, there are some students that actually keep it real and don't try to be someone that they are not. The campus is disgusting. There is trash all over the place. It's just a disgusting place. Not to mention the caf food. I only ate there once and will never again. There is nothing to do around campus or around here. It's too slow for my liking. My best advice is to visit this place before you come and then decide. I wish I had!
Hampton University is a disgrace to all colleges across America, especially HBCU's. I attended Hampton for one year my Freshman year, and it was and will always be the most wasted year of my entire life. I heard most of the people at the school are pretty arrogant so I thought I'd fit right in. But when I got there I quickly realized, they have nothing to be arrogant about. The academics there are garbage...I sat in class with a bunch of black n mild smoking, kool-aid drinking, cafeteria eating, imbecils all day. They'd walk into class late with their Timberland boots banging against the cheap tile floor and ask the teacher questions that I learned in the 8th grade. I pulled a 4.0 first semester and a 3.85 the 2nd semester (I really slacked off then) and all I did was pay attention in class and study the night before the test. Now I think I know why they're business school is NOT accredited. Thank God I had a few friends there that had some type of decent upbringing...but don't even bother hoping they're still there when you go, they've all transferred just like me! Right now I attend the University of Delaware where I am finishing my Sophomore year as a Finance major. The academics here are much more challenging and the social life is MUCH better. I'm probably going to go for this JP Morgan internship this summer that I was offered...(it was so embarassing applying for it with HU on my Resume). All of Hampton's rankings are complete BS...they deserve to be at the bottom of the list. If you want to make it to the top you have to go to a top school...which Hampton is not. Gents if you want to go to a HBCU opt for Morehouse or Howard. At Hampton you spend your weekends at "The Legion", "The Norva" or in your dorm because of their rediculous curfew. That's another thing, the places off campus are pretty far. The only thing they have within walking distance from Campus is the Harbors, a small abominable neighboring shopping center, which you wouldn't be able to spot me in my Salvatore Ferragamos over there past sunset. Their Dry Cleaners over there is TRASH...they ruined one of my Roberto Cavalli shirts and had the nerve to say it was a defect. Don't fret, I was sure to settle that issue quickly...I let them know that Mr. Cavalli doesn't make mistakes (let's just say I'm not the one out of $450). And I couldn't even wash my clothes in the dorm washers and dryers because they put stains IN your clothes. I had to use my friends apts off-campus just to wash my clothes. I'll try to go on a bad tangent about the malls...omg what kinda stores did they offer!? Nothing that I would be seen in...I made one loop around the mall with my friends and said..."OMG YOU HAVE TO BE KIDDING ME...What happened to Saks, Dolce & Gabanna, Club Monaco, Lacoste, Ralph Luaren boutiques?"...they said "Welcome to Hampton." Hampton's mail system is terrible...they must have drug addicts like Tyrone Biggums working in the Post Office center because my mother sent me money 2x via mail and I didn't receive either. When I asked about it the lady said "looky here we give you every piece of mail that comes through here with your name on"...I called the lady a "damn filthy crack-smoking liar" and she reported me. Ha!...nice try, Dean McMorris looked up my records (noticing my parents names and my GPA) and apoligized for the misunderstanding. The campus is also disguisting and so are all the buildings...the janitors are lazy and watch "Good Times" and "Judge Joe Mathis" all day. Hey, I couldn't do much except complain to them, they rarely listened and my parents said I needed to get the "college experience" so I had to live in the dorm for at least one year. Every chance I got to spend at my friends and lady friends place, please believe I took advantage of it. I spent one-weekend on-campus and that was mistake...ever since I made sure my LV bags were packed by 5pm when my ride came to take me somewhere off campus. I've spent so many nights at the Radisson Hotel (the closest one) I'm sure they still remember my credit card number. The Gym at HU is also rediculous...I like to remain in top notch shape and well...let's just say their gym couldn't satisfy my needs. Take this as warning and if you still go to HU after reading this, you are a FOOL and I hope your experience there treats you like one
Lets see... my last boss is a Hampton Alumnus and he's introduced me to quite a few people who are alumni and from what I gathered everybody I've met who went to Hampton not only loved it they are doing very well for themselves.
Every single one of the people he's introduced me to is a CEO of their own company or well established in some form or fashion makign well over 80-100K+. Not to mention he's doing very well for himself and his family. Also because of his education is very people oriented, so he does more outside of the business like mentoring to people like myself.
In fact he called me yesterday and is helping me in the process of setting up a business of my own as well as finding work and other mentors in Atlanta.
I could write all day about the good i've seen, Hampton was a close second for me in my college search and if my son doesn't end up at Morehouse I won't be mad if he ends up there.
Anyway, certain schools aren't for certain people. maybe it really was that bad for people but for the people I know personally they loved it and for those who graduated they are doing big things... to each their own.
so...what exactly was the reasoning behind you posting this? I attend a white college but I still support black colleges...you should consider doing the same...did you not get in or something? because you sat there and copy/pasted all of those reviews and made an entire topic
Hope you guys have better experiences than these people

that's true about the tours; just come on a normal day. the cafeteria isn't bad at all! breakfast is actually quite good, and as long as you look what's ON the buffet line before you put it on your plate (just as you'd do in ANY public buffet), you'll be straight. the janitors aren't MAIDS, if you have a problem with how they clean, you're probably a) EXTREMELY messy, or b) filthy rich with maids at home. this is COLLEGE. the cleaning people can only do so much.

... maybe YOU were disgusting. what dorm did you stay in??? hampton's food is served BUFFET STYLE. so if you don't like the food, it truly is your own fault. and where in the world did you find out that the cafe people don't eat in the cafe? you must be blind and deaf, because every day i was up in there, when the workers would take their breaks and get something to eat.
this is REALLY upsetting. just because hampton isn't the right school for you, and YOU hate it, really doesn't mean that no one should go here.

THIS IS ABSOLUTEY RIDICULOUS. just because YOU didn't fit in, find your niche, and enjoy the school you worked HARD to get accepted into doesn't mean that everyone else will hate it too. you had PLENTY of time to decide whether or not you wanted to go here... so because you stayed a WHOLE year... really doesn't give you the right to complain. especially since you KNEW of the school's issues before you came.
this... i just cant get over how ridiculous this is. hampton is a wonderful school; the business department with its hair regulations is a little iffy, and i don't completely agree with their policies, but as a computer science major, i can say that i love the science department, and the school as a whole! it is pricey, but i knew that before i go here, so who am i to complain.
I KNOW I'M NOT ALONE ON THIS ONE! CHRIS! MARCHELLE! ALL OTHER HU STUDENTS??? WHERE YALL AT??? lol
LOL girl dont worry about that Lame who wrote all that bad stuff about Hampton - they dont even matter ... Hampton has many Haters so just charge it to the game and keep it moving because I LOVE MY HU !
Guys you got me all wrong. i don't hate Hampton on the count of i never attended it. i was just reading reviews on future schools i would like to go to and most of the ones from hampton were all negative. I just noticed that a lot of people, not just people who go to hampton, don't visit the schools before they go and then they get disappointed. just making sure that everybody who is about to set off the Hampton has visited it before. And i love HBCU's thats why i plan on going to one.
P.S. don't get offened by anything i say, i'm only a senior in high school. all of you most likely know way more than i do.
