I plan on transferring to an HBCU for the fall of 2007. I feel I cannot fully reach my potential with people over my shoulder (sp?) telling me I can't do that because I am African American. I feel it will be a change for the better growing up in a town that was perdominantly white. It is something I am working **** and hope to achieve!!!
What HBCU do you plan on transferring to and what college do you attend now if you don't mind me asking? I'm a freshman currently in my spring semester of undergrad at a predominantly white university as well. Although one of the main reasons i'm transferring is the 'price tag' and the fact that overall I'm just not happy here. I'm transferring as well for fall '07 and plan on attending an HBCU or Temple U. Good luck
There are many I plan on transferring to central state, grambling, jackson state, UAPB, virginia state, xavier. those are just a few. I currently attend Baker University.
Hey my first year of college I also went 2 a predominatly white college and I didnt like it at all and now I just go 2 a business school where I'm majoring in Medical Assisting and that school is also majority white but still there are african americans. But I was thinking in the fall of 08 about going 2 an HBCU even though i'll be 21 at the time. But I just thought it would be nice 2 go somewhere away from home and 2 actually have a good college experience. And I also wanted 2 get back into the band thing and I couldnt have thought of a better place 2 do that at. So your diffenantly not alone.
I think its great that your planning to transfer to an HBCU, to me the HBCU experience is better than any other college experience. I graduated from a white high school, so it was a change at first but it was a change I enjoyed. I hope that you seriously consider Grambling cause they are making some wonderful changes on campus.(Although I may not be attending there) Also I don't see anything wrong with being twenty one and tranferring to an HBCU, I started college late and I don't reget it. I'm certainly more serious about it now than I would have been right out of high school. I'll be transferring either Grambling, Southern, JacksonState, or Prarieview and I know that I'm making the right choice by transferring to one of these great universities.
I have narrowed my schools down to grambling central state paul quinn and philander smith. those are it. I am gettin all my info together so it can be sent off. I too went to a perdominalty white high school and spet 1 year at a perdominalty black high school. it was so much fun. I am jsut looking foward to transffering.
