What if... you woke up this morning to discover that you were another race? Your financial position, job, etc. are exactly the same, but you are simply a different color. Do you think your life would change? If so, how?

Wow...great topic. Yea, my life would be totally different. I think it would be really akward for me to be anything other than black because one, I am so pro-black...I don't know if that would change or not. And two, there's not many other people who aren't either Black or Spanish where I live, so I think I would feel really alone. Being treated differently, either worse or better I don't know, would definitely be a reality shock, that I'm not so sure I would be receptive to.

just imagine, that happened to me dad.. "Colored" is his classification ..my both my grandparents on his arent black my grandfather was always considered to be a red-negro because he wasn't as lightskined to pass as white. he dint try to be white either. he was him. "colored" because he was of some kind of native race of people... but my grandma and aunts sure passed for white. i recently found out that my grandmas dad was white .. her mother was a Redskinned black that passed for white .. beyond that point i dont have a clue .. so out of this .. my dad woke up one day thinking that he was black and found out that he wasnt .. (same as my aunts who thought they were "black" too) .. All birth certificates have "Colored" marked .. what does that make me .. <-- BLACK

hmmmm...good topic. I guess there are some dynamics that should be considered. Like for one, would I still be the same mentally, spiritually, and psychologically? If a woke up a new race, would I be waking up as a new person, or would I be the same me...but just with a different skin tone and hair type? Because I firmly believe that "race" is a man-made creation, designed to classify, distinguish, and magnify humanistic differences. However, I think CULTURALLY is where the true identifiers lie. And honestly, I think culture is bigger than skin, hair, and a label. I believe that I would still be the same person. What shapes us as human beings are our environment, surroundings, and experiences. Granted, I consider myself "pro-Black", a lover of "natural hair", and a huge fan of soul music...so some of my interests might shift as a person. But if my position in society would still be the same, and I would still be emmersed within the same culture, than I would inevitably still be who I always was
