hey i'm planning on pledging aka in college. i really want to, and i'm a legacy. but what if i'm horrible at stepping. do i have to step. i'm going to be honest, i go to an all white prep school, and never really learned how to dance as pathetic as that might sound. i know aka's love to step what will happen if i just can't get it? many people have told me just go to a white school, and don't pledge. but i don't want that. i really want to attend spelman, and become an aka. will i be ridiculed for being a bad stepper. please help.

Hmmmm...What a quandry! No, you don't have to step. What makes you think you'd HAVE to step?

my mom said in her chapter they all stepped...but of course that could have something to do with her going to a predominately white school and not having alot of aka's to begin with. thanks. good to know i don't have to step.

I thought you were about to say "Cuz e'rbody stepped in Stomp The Yard" No, you don't have to step if you don't want to. We've had brothers in my chapter that didn't step, we've even had brothers that had no rhythm learn how to step and then we had the ones that had no rhythm, tried to learn and still couldn't step! ~pullin myself together~ So no you don't have to.

Good luck on your pursuits. Greek life isn't all about strolling at the club or stepping. Just meet you some good friends and be nice to everyone regardless if they are Greek or not. Also, word of advice don't tell anyone you want to be an AKA wherever you go to school. That will leave you open to be hazed or ridiculed before your time to pledge. Alright, good luck with college life! Also, find you a good church home wherever you go to school because it will keep you balanced.

This can't be right, are you for real?! Who are you to regulate what I do with my time? Who are you to deem what's serious and what isn't? and lastly....WHO ARE YOU?! Yes I got your message and I forgot to respond to it. Don't worry, you'll get your reply but you better believe that it'll be on my time! Bring yourself down a few notches because you're smellin yourself right about now.

Point taken @ C nels. I didnt mean to come off as smelling myself but her question just seemed a real waste of time. Didn't mean to try to regulate your time either. Sometimes I have to step back and realize that the world does not revolve around AFRO. Look forward to your response. ttyl. @Orca, I agree with smc. Becareful who you show interest to. If you truly are interested your actions should speak for themselves. And no, I believe all of the divine nine have anti hazing policies. Still i suggest you keep your actions and mouth in check... thats a no no on black campuses... try to befriend other prospects... you can spot them because they will be at all the events like you. They can share knowledge with you etc. I wish you luck, and whether you have rhythem or not, If you put forth extra work... you wont look crazy during step shows.
