According to that book, there are actually 2 black collegiate organizations that came before Alpha Phi Alpha.
1)"Alpha Kappa Nu" in 1903 at Indiana university (a precursor to Kappa Alpha Psi)
2)Gamma Phi fraternity founded in 1905 at Wilberforce University.
It stated that Alpha Kappa Nu only last a short while, but that there are records of Gamma Phi fraternity all the way up until the 1940's.
How do you all respond to the proclamation of this book that A phi A wasn't indeed the first?

At Morehouse's Rush there usually a lecture on greek history in America givin by campus campus historian (who coincidentally is an Alpha as well).
Alpha's claim to be the oldest SURVIVING black greek lettered organization, however, its usually common knowledge of the attempts to establish one previous to. Usually if you talk to one who's knowledgeable they usually don't have any qualms with pointing out that fact.
In fact research the Boule whenever you get a chance. It's been a cool minute since I've heard Skip Mason's lecture but if I remember correctly that is the first recorded black fraternal organization.

I haven't read the book so I don't have enough information to give you the well informed response you seem to be in search of.
Going off of what you said, I have to ask.
In his book, does Bro Kimbrough outright claim that "Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc is not the first intercollegiate Greek-letter fraternity established for African-Americans" or did you see Alpha Kappa Nu(1903) and Gamma Phi(1905) and concluded that since Alpha was founded in 1906 that we aren't the first?
Can you post the reference? I'm just curious to know what exactly he says.

I have read the book written by Bro. Kimbrough.
Alpha Kappa Nu was not a sanctioned fraternity.
I am also a graduate of Wilberforce Univ. and there were some yearbook pictures of Gamma Phi in some early years, but, no other mention. It is also curious that Bro. Wesley (The author of the History Book) was at Wilberforce and never mentioned anything about Gamma Phi. This fact is not covered in Bro. Kimbrough's book.
We are still the oldest and the coldest intercollegiate fraternity there is.
I respond with, "I hope the book makes the best sellers list!" 
Bro Kimbrough will be yet another Alpha author to make it there!
