Ever since I first heard about it when I was in like the 6th grade, I always knew I wanted to go Greek in college. Honestly, I haven't done that much research on it, but I've done a little and I still can't decide which one I'd like to go out for the most.
**Edit: Basically, its like...i know each group has their own core values and stuff but i want a personal perspective...like from someone who is an offiial Delta or AKA, what do you personally think makes your soror different from the other ones they see on campus? Or...you like being a insert your soror name here because why?
You don't have to use those questions, but I figured they are good guides for perspective. I'm just curious about how different people from different schools view their sorors. And now that I think about it, guys from frats can answer too.
**Original Message: Also, over the years I've run into hundreds of stereotypes about different sorors. I try not to listen to stereotypes but I figure if everybody says the same thing...Basically, I just wanna know, how close are the basic stereotypes to being true?
(&& If you don't know what I'm talkin about, for example I've heard:
---AKAs are stuck up and b*tchy, b/c only the prettiest girls are allowed to be Alphas. And they step to be cute, not wantin to break a sweat.
--Deltas are b*tchy too, just not as vain as the Alphas. Their more about their studies and their steppin, and don't have time for nobody except for they soror sisters. And most of them are pretty friendly with guys. ALOT.
These are a little on the extreme side, but you know what I mean...how are black sorors really? Do they fit certain stereotypes in any way?
Obviously you don't get what I want. First of all, actually, i have the school part in mind and down already - thanks.
2. & i also know that stereotyes aren't usually true, which is why i stated that i dont listen to them.
3. the replies i get from this thread aren't going to make me decide which soror to join, im just wondering out of curiosity from the people that are actually already part of these groups.
4. i wanna know what makes each one different, in someone from the soror's own words, i just used the stereotypes as an example of explaining the differences.
britt1love, do more research on these sororities and stop listening to people, because being part of a sorority might mean different things to different people. It's all a matter of perspective. If you do join a sorority, join one because you know you can offer something to that sorority and grow with it.
You already know that stereotypes are exaggerated truths. So, all in all, some sorors might live up to the hype and others might not. They do their own thing, so you do yours, ma.
thanks i heart pie, for going at it a little nicer at least.
but honestly people, i promise im in the process of doing more research and to go along with my research id like some human feedback, real words, even though its not gonna affect my decision. and i know ppl have different views of things, and thats exactly why i ask. i wanna see the different views of what people in sorors honestly think their group (not just their chapter) is to them. and i am going to join to better the group, im just curiousto kno pppl's opinion of what i might be joining, i.e how they see it. && its not gonna sway my decision in any way. just curious...
Being that our organizations consist of real people that can fit various stereotypes, you'll find some of each type in each one. They do fit the stereotypes but 9 times out of 10, they were that way before they joined.
But like everyone has said, do more research and even read the other Greek Fam threads, because this question has been asked and answered before in here.
Oh yeah, I know you didn't mean any harm but make sure you know the organization's shortened name before you start using it.
Members of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. aren't known as "Alphas", they're AKAs. Members of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. are known as "Alphas".
...research...
i give up...
geez, your all missing the point of the thread.
&& im not sayin that in any kind of negative way, btw.
maybe i wasn't making it clear enough...but whatever.
thanks for the advice...i guess.

Don't give up! If you give up this easily now I'd hate to see how you are with other aspects of your life.
What is the point of your thread? Reading all of the replies, it seems like your questions were answered...
