Tuskegee Golden Tigers Top SBN 2008 Preseason Poll

(Pittsburgh, PA) –The Tuskegee Golden Tigers were selected number one in the SBN Sports Black College Football Preseason Poll. The 2007 SBN Black College National Champions received 15 of 30 first place votes and a total of 241 points. Defending MEAC (Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference) champion Delaware State garnered six first place votes and 197 points, followed by defending SWAC (Southwestern Athletic Conference) Jackson State (3) 193 points, South Carolina State (4) 178 points and Southern (1) 152 points. Norfolk State (124pts), Grambling State (87pts), Virginia Union (65pts), Albany State (45pts) and Alabama A&M (43pts) rounded out the top ten. The Prairie View A&M Panthers were one of several other teams to accumulate points and they received the remaining number one vote.
The SBN Sports Black College Football Poll is compiled on a weekly basis throughout the college football season by a select group of Black College head coaches, sports information directors, prints, radio and television reporters. It is widely recognized as the authority in ranking historically Black College Football teams. For thirty-five years, these rankings have determined Black College Football's National Championship team and the winner of the Jake Gaither National Championship Trophy.
