Once a week I have a conversation at work that goes like this: Them: When does your son report to school ? Me: Mumble mumble....August Them: August what ?? Me: 17th ( someone told me that over the phone). I have seen nothing in writing. Them: Well, if you're taking off to take him to school, don't forget to put it on the calendar. Me: (silently) If I knew, it would be on the calendar. How can this be June and students have not received dorm assignments or anything telling them when to show up. His classmates have their room assignments, room mates and class schedule. I'm not naming names. Those who know, know. Is it asking too much to know when you're supposed to show up????

It sure isn't and maybe you just need to contact them and let them know your son hasn't received his ish yet! Sometimes the schools can be slack with this. I don't know what school you're refering to but I know I usually get my stuff in July((but I'm a returning student and a senior)). Since he is an incoming freshman they should've contacted you by now though. Call the financial aid dept to make sure no docs are missing  If everything is straight, call housing and let them know your son hasn't received anything. Do it NOW before housing fills up!  He may have to go to the school and register for classes, I know they made us pick our own class schedule((still do)) Classes are no biggie though. He can always register online or just wait until he gets there Keep on their **** and make sure you are in the loop because if you don't they WILL wait until the last minute to tell you some bullish>STALK them if necessary  , just a heads up  8)

I disagree about the housing. My school specifically told me not to expect my housing information until after June 15. Some schools do it earlier than others, so you shouldn't use that as a gauge -- some schools don't hold registration until the first week! However, if it gets to be the beginning of July and you still haven't heard anything, then I suggest you call the housing department. But if you just want to make sure nothing's missing, then you should definitely call. Some schools have some hidden req's they don't tell you about straight up (like health forms and ish.) But as for not knowing when to show up...that's definitely a problem. Because I know even though I don't know where I'll be yet, I know what day NSO starts. So I suggest you visit your son's school's website or call them to ask when NSO starts, get the whole picture, you know.

Actually we were on campus last week paying tuition. Asked the person in the business office, when is the first day of NSO ?. She looked through all the same stuff we have received and couldn't find it. She then called down to admissions, but it was 3:05 and it was closed. She called 2 more people and said well, school starts on the 25, NSO is a week earlier. It should be published SOMEWHERE. That's my gripe.

I still haven't received my dorm assignments, although I called over a month ago and was told they would be here in two weeks. The schools just have a lot of things to do at this time of the year, and it's hard for them to get it all together. They should really just work on improving this system though b/c I know a lot of other students who are irritated with the way it's going now. I do know when schools starts though, so you should definitely call and find out why you don't.

I agree with Babyfaced1908, STALK THEM IF NECESSARY!!! I haven't had too many issues with registration and housing because XU is small and I know the right ppl to call, but not every school is like that. If you want to make sure your stuff is in order, bug the HELL out of them, whether it be financial aid, housing, the registrar, whoeva! Call those ppl so much that they know you AND your son by first and last name, hell nicknames may be helpful too  . Eba, after those 2 weeks were up and you still didn't get your paperwork, I would have called their **** again to make sure everything is straight. Stay on top of that stuff cuz I know a lot of people who have come to school and couldn't register because of some minor details that could have been cleared up when they were at home...btw, good luck!

This is not just an individual problem. The start date is not stated in the official generic acceptance letter or anything else they have sent. Other posters on HBCU say that their parents are calling also and are being told "they don't know". I'm making copies of everything, staying ahead of deadlines, maybe I'll try a little pestering. I just don't get it and I'm an old school public HBCU grad but I knew from jump when I was to show up.
