ok..i visited howard..and it seemed real cool...i went while it was cold, so i didn't really get to see the people on quad..lol..but that's not the point of my question...i hear so many bad things about howard, like there are a bunch of snobs up there cuz it's like a prestigious school and people just carry that attitude. now, i know that i shouldn't be basing my school decisions on what other ppl say cuz i know someone is gonna tell me "you're gonna get snobbish ppl anywhere u go"...but if this is the main thing going on up there (along with the fashion status) then i just don't wanna be a part of it :? . any people that go to HU...respond back please.
LOL..oh yeah I just threw in the poll for fun...I've never tried one before...
Well, I don't go to Howard but I know 50 thousand million people that do go there because half of Detroit, Michigan goes there! And none of the people I know are stuck up. My cousin be walkin around in jogging pants and a T-shirt, str8 chillin. However, I DO go to Spelman, Land of the So-Called Stuck Up Hoes. It seemed like my senior year of high school, almost every time I would tell someone what school I was going to (specifically my peers) they would make this face :? like Spelman was just terrible. Everybody has this false assumption that 99.9% of the girls that go here are stuck-up. Some people just hear stuff and believe it, others have encountered a COUPLE of funny-acting girls and magically everybody at the school is stuck up. I even started to reconsider going here because damn near EVERYBODY thought that I was going to come back home a stuck up b!tch. I'm like dang is it really that bad there. Sooo I took matters into my own hands and I went to visit Spelman. I went three times, including the Black College Tour. The last time I visited before actually going here was for this little program Spelman has called Spel-bound. They invite all the girls that got accepted to room with a current student and they get to go to classes with us and they have activities planned out and all that. So I went and I just knew everybody was gone act stank. Had to pick up MY face! All the girls I met were extra cool and down-to-earth. Wasn't nobody stuck up and mean like I thought they would be. Tha'ts kinda when I completely made up my mind that I was going to be here in the fall. And when I actually started going here, I was so happy I made the right decision. Because I have met some sisters for life forreal. Howard does the same thing that Spelman does for their accepted students. And I know in Detroit, they have this weekend thing where all the accepted students get to stay in a hotel...for free. And not no Motel 6 or raggedy Hotel. Like the Marriott or Hyatt or somethin. So, what I'm basically tryin to say is, you shouldn't go off of what you hear from other people, cause half the time they don't even know what they talkin about. If you like what you see and hear at Howard and if you feel it's right for you, you better gone head and go girl! Plus, that HU homecoming is like no other. Oh yeah, and about the fashion thing, I hate to sound cliche, but EVERY HBCU is a fashion show to some extent. A lot of us still be walkin around lookin bummy though, cause I know I have my days! But don't trip girl, you'll be straight!
Hey lil one. Lemme let you know from a person that goes to HU. There aren't snobs. However, people do cliche up quickly. Like the first people you meet will prolly be your crew, unless you go outside yourself and talk to more people. That's got to be the only snobbery that goes on. But I mean, I'm an upperclassmen and I am just meeting some people now. The snobbery thing you heard was probably someone talking out of anger. I mean I am not rich, but the people who are rich donn't go out of their way to flaunt it, I mean they can't help that they are rich and they wanted to go to the best school that money can (or cannot) buy. A lot of people say that the Laureate scholarship people cliche up quickly also but it isn't a major thing.. I mean wouldn't you want to be friends with someone who also knows that they have to get a 3.8 to stay in school? They'd keep you grounded ( They are really nice people).
Now on the whole fashion show tip, I think that a lot of people do dress to impress, but I mean I guess that they are the ones who feel bad when their stiletto pumps break on the way up the hill. No one really cares. By the end of the first year, they will start being reasonable with their dressing. They have to first realize that there is no cute way of falling on the way to Cramtom Auditorium in fake-Minolo's. You get a good laugh off of them. Howard still is a wonderful school, and something as fickle as dressing and snobbery shouldn't affect your decision to come here. I think you'd be lucky to have the Howard experience, and I encourage and DARE you to come here and see if you can handle it...
Good Luck, and I hope to see you here soon.
Here at Howard...most of us are really friendly, especially those from the Dirty South since we're just Down to Earth, ya know?? Ooopps, was that a sign of conceitedness? My Bad!!!
