In an effort to help the Thurgood Marshall College Fund raise funds, the department store Nordstrom is exclusively selling a CD compilation of legendary and contemporary Black female blues and jazz artists.
Titled “The Royal Blues — Celebrating the Queens of Blues and Jazz,” all after-cost proceeds of the CD from February 2009 to December 2009 will go to TMCF, a nonprofit organization that provides advocacy, leadership development and scholarships to public historically Black colleges and universities.
Vocalists on the CD include Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald, Etta James, Sarah Vaughn, Shirley Horn and up-and-coming jazz singer Lizz Wright. Launched as part of Nordstrom’s Black History Month celebration, it is available for $18.95 at all Nordstrom locations and online at Black History Month - Nordstrom.
