OK, I just read this story on about how a food fight turned into a REAL fight when a 5th grader threw some vegetables (probably green beans) at a 55 year old food server. The 55 year old responded back by throwing vegetables (probably some brussel sprouts) back at the 5th grader. THEN, the 5th grader punched the cafeteria lady, then all hell broke loose.
You can read the story here: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/35336605/ns/us_news/?gt1=43001
OK, first of all ... it's a 5th grader; you are an adult. If a 5th grader throws some veggies at you, be an adult, report the problematic child to the appropriate authorities; don't take matters into your own hands AT YOUR JOB! Be professional. Now at home? If it were my child throwing anything at me? ... call child services, cuz someone about to get a serious beat down.
Second (if the first option above doesn't apply or go over well with you), if you are going to retaliate, always retaliate with something bigger than what you received. I throw veggies, you throw veggies. Nah! I'm throwing punches. You throw something at me, I'm throwing my fist in your mouth. Plain and simple. Cuz obviously, that is what it turned into. the 5th grader got the note; the cafe woman threw veggies back, she retaliated with a punch. Way to get the first punch in!
Third ... are you smarter than a 5th grader? Apparently not.
Lastly, ... parents ... please, please let's teach our children some appropriate manners. Would you let your child throw some sweet corn in your face? I didn't think so. So let's teach them not to do it to any body else as well.
