JULY BOOK CLUB SELECTION PROCESS (PLEASE READ) Posted on 06-24-2004
C Diddy

From the Desk of Carlene Reid  Sorry Jamila...instead of just starting a new thread I just edited yours....but I took your concerns in account...was trying to let Ekow run things and just kinda co-moderate...but I see I should step up to the plate...so here's the time line. According to Ekow's system this is what we are gonna do. Follow this guideline closely so that we can start on July 1. Step One: Please post book nominations in THIS thread and THIS thread only. The first five books to receive seconds will be entered into another thread with a poll. I suggest nominators and others go to Amazon.com or something like that to read and post some reviews for us to read. That way we'll have a ground on nominating a decent book for the month of July. This thread will be locked on Friday June 25 at 5:00 pm SHARP. If we haven't reached the first five nomination then the first >4 books nominated with seconds will be entered into the poll which will start sometime Friday evening. Step Two: The thread with the poll will be opened until 5:00 PM Monday, June 28...after that time it will be locked The only count that will matter is what the poll shows. Meaning don't simply reply and say that oh I want such and such a book. You MUST VOTE in the poll. Step Three:BCU Book of the Month will be announced on Tuesday June 29....go buy, check out, borrow, etc. your books because reading should commence on Thursday July 1. Discussions/threads about the book will pop up through out the month. ~Carlene

I would like to nominate Revenge Is Best Served Cold by Tracie Howard and Danita Carter Lil bout the book: Take two women with a score to settle, blend seamlessly into Manhattan high society, and serve chilled. What you have is the debut of the year--a deliciously intoxicating novel about gettin rich and gettin even... Beautiful Morgan Nelson is making waves as VP of a Fortune 500 corporation. Dakota Cantrell is a bond trader making all the right moves on Wall Street. Together they've found the right men, shattered the color barriers, kicked the boys' club to the curb, and made a name for themselves as the Divas of New York big business. But their lucurious lifestyles are still worlds apart from the old meoney of Park Avenue--the haunt of their charismatic new business partner, Blake St. James. He's a man with a secret, a hidden motive, and a scheme that threatens everything Morgan and Dakota have accomplished. Now they're going to fight fire with fire, betrayal with betrayal. No compromise. No rules. No limits. For success is truly...the best revenage.

Just letting everyone know that this thread will be locked today...between 4:30 and 5:00 pm...whenever I leave work so I suggest you get to nominating and seconding. Because as of right now the only choices are Move Over, Girl and Revenge is Served Cold.

"Skinny Women Are Evil" by Mo'Nique...J/K.. How about "Mama" by Terry McMillan From the back cover... "It ain't that I don't believe in God, I just don't trust his judgement." Mildred Peacock is the tough, funny, fiesty, heroine of "Mama", a survivor who'll do anything to keep her family together. In Mildreds world men come and go as quickly as paychecks, but her five children are her dreams, her hope, and her future. "Mama" is a black womens story portrayed with rich, power, honesty, and love.

I read it and it was okay. Actually it was very funny. I wouldn't read it in a book club though.
